SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you're single in San Diego, chances are you're not impressed by the dating field locally.At least according to Apartment List, which ranked 130 cities on their ability to provide singles with the best atmosphere. San Diego is, well, lukewarm according to the study.The city ranked 73 overall, right in the middle of the park and posting an overall score of 48 out of 100 possible points.RELATED: Love hurts: Price of a date in San Diego could cost you, study saysThe study ranked cities on their dating satisfaction, social satisfaction, dating affordability, and percentage of reported singles, using data from Apartment List’s Annual Renter Satisfaction Survey and Census Bureau American Community Survey 2017.When it broke down that way, only about 22% of respondents were satisfied with the dating in San Diego. How women and men feel about dating locally may give us an idea about why the city ranked where it did. About 17% of women and 35% of men were satisfied with dating here.Far more San Diegans, about 58%, were satisfied with their social lives in town. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Longtime San Diego State football coach Rocky Long is stepping down after nine seasons.San Diego State officials announced Wednesday that Long will be replaced by Aztecs defensive line coach Brady Hoke.Hoke was SDSU's head coach in 2009 and 2010 before leaving to become head coach at Michigan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In Pacific Beach, it's common to see scooters in the flow of traffic.At night, it's the same story. Firefighters plagued with trauma patients from scooter crashes. Crews say they often see people using them to bar hop.A study released Thursday reveals data supporting exactly that. The study focuses on 103 patients and after tests it shows that half of them were drunk. Even more surprising, 52% were high on drugs.The study pulled data from UCSD Medical Center, Scripps Mercy Medical Center, and a hospital in Austin, Texas."We were concerned this would become the next big public health issue," says UC San Diego Health Dr. Leslie Kobayashi.The study looked at patients between September 1, 2017 to October 31, 2018."Spinal fractures and spinal chord injuries," Kobayashi says, recalling injuries. "I myself saw one patient who was not able to be salvaged because of a severe overwhelming devastating head injury."Kobayashi seeing the skyrocketing trend from the emergency room.New rules started in June to combat these stats, like limiting the speed of scooters in places like the boardwalk and forcing riders to park scooters in corrals.Firefighters in Pacific Beach say they're seeing less injuries in the last month.Kobayashi hopes it's just the beginning."Reducing the speeds, limiting the times of day it can be used, and whether or not protective gear, most importantly helmets are going to have an impact on injury prevention," Kobayashi added.The conclusion of the study reads, "eScooter-related trauma has significantly increased over time. Alcohol and illicit substance use among these patients was common, and helmet use was extremely rare. Significant injuries including intracranial hemorrhage and fractures requiring operative intervention were present in over half (51%) of patients. Interventions aimed at increasing helmet use and discouraging eScooter operation while intoxicated are necessary to reduce the burden of eScooter-related trauma."10News reached out to Bird and Lime for a response.Lime said they are "piloting a new function in the app - “Don’t drink and ride” - whereby those trying to rent a Lime after 10pm now have to confirm they are not attempting to rider under the influence."Both companies said safety is their priority.Bird sent us this statement, in part, "The rules of the road, apply to everyone — whether behind the wheel, walking, cycling or on a scooter. We go to great lengths to educate and inform riders about the dangers of distracted riding, including riding under the influence, as well as educating them on how to identify drivers who might be operating cars under the influence." Customers are flocking to buy ammunition before a new California gun law goes into effect. It’s called the “1 million round month.” Just a few hours after opening its doors, Poway Weapons and Gear Range sold half of their 1.2 million rounds of ammo. “Today is a direct reflection of the law,” says Danielle Rudolph, Director of Sales at Poway Weapons and Gear Range. “People are trying to stock up and save up now that way they don’t have to worry about it next year.” The new law starting in July says in addition to a gun permit, gun owners will have to pass another background check to buy ammunition. Retailers will then have to log the amount of ammo gun owners purchase in a database. The records will be sent to the Department of Justice. When asked about the store’s large sale, Ron Marcus with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said in part: “The bottom line is regardless of how people try to prepare themselves before the law goes into effect, majority of Californians voted on Prop. 63 that put these laws into effect."Store owners say they will order more ammunition for customers to purchase at a reduced price. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Jo Anne Bilodeau finds peace inside the grounds of her serene San Carlos apartment complex, filled with greenery, benches, a clubhouse and a pool.Even her rent is less than ,100 a month. "It kind of feels like a sanctuary," she says. But Bilodeau's days in San Diego could be numbered, all because of a specialty shot she takes every 12 weeks. "It makes you feel like you're in limbo all the time because you don't know the exact cost of the drug until you get a bill."Bilodeau suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease that causes the body to mistakenly attack the joints. She's about to turn 71 and on medical leave from her job, meaning her company health benefits are expiring. That leaves her with just Medicare, and what she believes will be a ,300 co-insurance payment on the drug."I have my days," she says. "I have meltdowns where I just cry because I'm worried and scared."Bilodeau isn't the only one with that anxiety.A new study by AARP says the price for specialty prescription drugs, ones that are generally infused or injected, rose 7 percent in 2017. That's more than three times the rate of inflation. The average annual cost for these drugs is nearly ,000. Federal and State governments are now moving legislation to help lower prices and increase transparency. In the meantime, Leigh Purvis, of the AARP Public Policy Institute, said the best thing to do is for patients to talk to their health care providers to see if there is a less expensive generic alternative to treat the same condition.Drug manufacturers themselves also offer patient assistance programs to those who are eligible.
