KILLEEN, Texas - Homicide detectives in Killeen say they have arrested a Fort Hood soldier in connection to the 2019 homicide of 32-year-old Chelsea Cheatham.According to a police news report, Grafton was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder.Back on June 3, 2019, the Killeen Police Department responded to the Days Inn Hotel in Killeen, where they located the victim, 32-year-old Cheatham. On September 2, 2020, the Texas Rangers informed KPD about the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Program and the possibility of utilizing advanced DNA testing to help solve this case.After reviewing the investigation, the Texas Rangers and KPD identified 20-year-old Cory Grafton, a soldier from Fort Hood, as a possible suspect.Investigators interviewed Grafton about Cheatham’s death and collected a sample of his DNA. One of Grafton’s co-workers provided a statement to police that Grafton confessed to him about killing Cheatham.Investigators expedited the DNA test on Grafton’s sample, and on Nov. 3, the test results confirmed Grafton’s DNA matched the DNA found at the crime scene. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - When you think of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a polling place probably doesn't come to mind.However, maintaining the security of our elections is a major function of the agency."One of the most important things we do is to protect citizens' constitutional right to vote," C.J. Sanders, an FBI Supervisory Special Agent, said.The FBI accomplishes this by working with the Department of Homeland Security, the United States Postal Inspection Service, secretaries of state and local election officials.According to Sanders, the FBI will set up command posts in Kansas City, Jefferson City, and Topeka to respond to any allegations of voter fraud.It's the same set up the agency has utilized in previous elections, and Sanders emphasized voters should have confidence in the system, even if more people are voting by mail this time around."There's not much different this year than we've had in years past," he said, "We've always had mail-in ballots and voting in person with the machines."According to experts at the Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan policy group at New York University, 25 percent of all votes were cast by mail in the last two federal elections."Mail ballots are paper ballots. That means we do have an opportunity to audit all of those ballots," Lawrence Norden, Director of the Brennan Center's Election Reform Program, said.As always, the FBI will investigate reports of voter fraud, like multiple voting, false registration and stolen mail-in ballots.Sanders said there were some fraud reports in 2016 and 2018, but none were prosecuted federally.One of the biggest election concerns for the FBI actually originates outside our country."In years past obviously we've seen other countries try to influence voters through misinformation, trying to sow discord and undermine confidence in government," Sanders said.About a year ago the agency created an internal task force comprised of counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence, criminal and cyber experts who routinely meet to share information about foreign influence.The agency notifies Twitter and Facebook when threats, like bots spreading misinformation, are identified.Examples of the misinformation include telling voters they can vote online or by text, which are not options for casting a ballot.It's important to note that the following are not instances that should be reported to the FBI:Candidates campaigning too close to the polls. Wright, 17, faces second-degree domestic assault charges. According to court documents, police arrived at the south Kansas City school on Tuesday around noon. Witnesses told police that Jonay Wright and her father kicked and hit the victim in the head and body. Another witness told police that the father stomped on the victim’s head while the daughter kicked him. Court documents say Jonay Wright is the victim’s ex-girlfriend. Watt, a star defensive end for the Houston Texans, has offered to pay for the funerals of the victims of Friday's school shooting at Santa Fe High School, NFL.com reports.Ten people were killed in the shooting on Friday morning, and another 10 were injured. A suspect is in custody and has reportedly confessed to the shooting. He's being held without bond on capital murder charges.This wouldn't be the first time Watt has stepped up for the greater Houston community in the face of tragedy. Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin on April 26 signed House Bill 528, which makes Kentucky the first state in the country to establish a blanket presumption "that joint custody and equally shared parenting time is in the best interest of the child" in every divorce case."This should lead to less fighting between parents because we're not pitting parents against parents anymore in a winner-take-all situation," National Parents Organization Kentucky chairman Matt Hale said. "We think that'll lead to less parenting conflict and better outcomes for children."The law includes provisions to disqualify unfit parents based on histories of domestic violence or significant mental health problems as well as physical distance that would make co-parenting impractical.In general, Hale said, the new law will ensure children don't automatically "lose" a parent to divorce and parents' relationships after divorce don't have to become hostile over custody issues."What kid wouldn't want both of their parents in their life?" divorced mother Alexandra Beckman said.
