NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee community came together Friday to make sure an unclaimed veteran would not be forgotten. Large crowds turned out on a rainy morning to pay their respects to Leo Stokley, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He died Sunday at the Waters of Cheatham in Ashland City. He was 69 years old.Stokley served in the United States Marine Corps and did a tour of duty in Vietnam.After his passing, he had no family to attend his funeral. That’s when the community stepped in to make sure he wouldn't be buried alone. Hundreds of veterans and their friends and family showed up to show respect for Stokley.The push for help started among veterans groups on social media and was quickly shared during the week before the funeral."It's very heartwarming to see this many veterans and friends of veterans that show up here on a cold, rainy day, a weekday, to send him off in style. (KGTV) — Police arrested a 28-year-old Texas resident Thursday in connection with a motel fire and stabbing several days earlier.Police said Jeremiah Dayvon King was arrested after a woman was found stabbed several times outside of a burning motel room just before 3 a.m. Sunday. The fire occurred at the Roadway Inn Motel in the 600 block of Roosevelt Ave. Several guests pulled an unconscious woman from the woman and tried to put out the flames before police arrived. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with burns and multiple stab wounds. She was in stable condition on Thursday.Thursday, King was seen walking in the 300 block of Oxford Street in Chula Vista, when he was approached by officers and fled. MISSION BEACH (CNS) - A man robbed a Subway sandwich shop in Mission Beach Saturday afternoon, police said.Police were told a little before 1 p.m. that a man in his 30s had walked into a the Subway on West Mission Bay Drive near Mission Boulevard and threatened the clerk, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.The man "simulated" having a weapon in his pocked and demanded money, Foster said. The clerk complied and the man left the business on foot. He was last seen heading north away from the store.The suspect was described only as a man in his 30s, according to Foster. A man was wanted in a similar robbery of a Subway last Sunday, though detectives weren't available for comment on whether the two cases were related.The robber in the Sunday case was also described as a man in his 30s and reportedly simulated having a gun in his waistband. That same suspect was wanted for two other robberies of Game Stop stores, one on Sunday and the other on Wednesday, Dec. 19. 987

National Guard troops stationed along the US-Mexico border have contributed to 1,600 apprehensions of people crossing the border illegally and the capture of about 1,000 pounds of marijuana in their three-and-a-half weeks on the job, according to a Customs and Border Protection official.The official said the National Guard troops have also contributed to 451 "turn backs," where individuals abandon an attempt to illegally cross into the US.The official did not have comparison numbers available, so it was not possible to determine if those figures were substantially more than if National Guard troops had not been dispatched to the border. 652

More than half of parents think their children can get the flu from the vaccine, according to a new national survey by Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.
