SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The unofficial start of summer is here in San Diego and that means it’s time to hit the beaches and enjoy some sunshine.Health officials are reminding residents that it’s also time to check the water quality before heading out.The County of San Diego’s Department of Environmental Health checks the water on a regular basis and posts that information online.Due to the need to warn residents if water quality is poor, the county developed the “Check Before You Get In” website.The site allows people to check water conditions at more than 80 local beaches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three San Diego County high school football teams qualified for the state finals but may not have enough funding to attend the tournament, school officials said Monday.Lincoln High School boys just finished what coach David Dunn is calling a “Cinderella season”. The team has never before qualified for the event.“Just to have the experience and the opportunity to do it, and let alone be the first team to do it, it means a lot,” said T'ray Kirkland, senior player.The Lincoln High Hornets have had a slim roster, injuries, even a forfeited game. They beat Mira Mesa for the CIF championship.“There have been games where we really had to step up. You just see how much heart each and every person on this team has,” said Kirkland.“Their willingness to compete is different than a lot of the other teams that I've had before," Coach Dunn said.The boys have also been competitive academically. The team averages a 3.1 grade point average with as many as eight players holding a 4.0. Lincoln High is scheduled to play Menlo Atherton this weekend in the San Francisco suburb of Redwood City. The game won’t happen if the team doesn’t get more money. Although the state pays for some of the expenses, the team needs the community to step up.“We need this opportunity to really display that the Southeast produces athletes, great young men, and character,” said Kirkland.San Diego High and Escondido’s Orange Glen High also qualified for the state finals and need financial help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Rock Church is spreading its message of turning faith into action this weekend.They'll host a convention to teach other congregations ways to incorporate community service into their regular programming."We have thousands of people on the street every day, doing something in our community," says Pastor Miles McPherson. "It’s a great testament to the hearts of the people in our church."Rock Church says its members have completed 2.4 million hours of community service over the last 10 years, with an estimated economic value of million."It’s one thing for people to sit in a room and listen to a sermon, it’s another thing for people to go out and do it," says McPherson. "That’s why we call it a "Do Something Church."Leaders from 73 congregations across 13 states will be at the Do Something Conference this weekend. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thursday, San Diego Sheriff's investigators asked the public for help locating a Fallbrook man who disappeared in 2018.Officials say 50-year-old Arnoldo Loaiza Franco was reported missing on Aug. 10, 2018, by his family in Fallbrook, But the last time Franco had communication with anyone was on Aug. 1. At the time Franco went missing, he was reportedly working somewhere in Escondido or San Marcos at an avocado grove.Franco is described as a Hispanic man, with brown eyes and brown hair, weighing about 140 pounds and about 5-feet 8-inches tall.Anyone with information on Franco's whereabouts is asked to call SDSO's Homicide Unit at 858-285-6286 or the Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 716

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The teen boy who was bitten by a shark last September in Encinitas threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Padres game Tuesday night.Keane Hayes, 14, was attacked by a shark while diving for lobsters off Beacon's beach. The shark managed to bite his left cheek, shoulder and chest.Hayes was an active athlete who was a pitcher for his baseball team, so he worried at the time whether or not he'd fully recover."I always thought, what if my arm isn’t the same? What if I’m not going to be able to throw?" said Hayes.But over the past nine months, he has been working hard with a physical therapist to get back to his former self."He’s come such a long way," said Jon Luu, the physical therapist who has been working with Keane."He’s always positive, always motivated to get better each and everyday," said Luu.While nervous, Hayes said he was excited to get up on the mound and show the crowd how far he had come.The pitch went straight over the plate. 978
