UPDATE 2 p.m., Apr. 18: Lifeguards removed the shark advisory signs at Silver Strand.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Lifeguards warned beachgoers in Silver Strand after several agencies spotted a shark they say could be a great white off the coast Wednesday. According to authorities, the shark was initially spotted by Border Patrol agents in a helicopter above Imperial Beach around 10:30 a.m. The shark was also spotted by a lifeguard in a boat approximately two miles off the coast of Imperial Beach. RELATED: New shark detecting technology being testedThe shark is believed to be between seven and eight foot long. Lifeguards in Imperial Beach say they believe the shark could be a great white. The shark was again seen about half a mile off the coast of Silver Strand, prompting lifeguards to warn beachgoers. Lifeguards chose not to issue a formal public warning because the shark was of moderate size, wasn't behaving aggressively and was in an area with few people nearby, City News Service reports. Twenty years after he was killed for being gay, Matthew Shepard was laid to rest today.Shepard was given a special honor of being laid to rest at the Washington National Cathedral. Shepard’s father said today was a sense of relief.“It's so important,” says Dennis Shepard. “We now have a home for Matt others can visit; safe from haters.”Shepard died after being beaten and tied to a fence in Wyoming by two men who targeted him for being gay. Shepard became a symbol of the gay rights movement after his death, and now, his ashes will be interred at the Washington National Cathedral.“The Shepard's waited so long to bury Matthew’s ashes because they were fearful that some anti-gay individual or group would find his grave and desecrate it somehow,” says Rev. Gene Robinson, who helped lead Friday’s service.Robinson was the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church, and he carried Shepard's ashes into the cathedral.“And because he's become such a symbol for us, it feels like an indescribable honor to bring him into church,” says Robinson.The National Cathedral gave Shepard the unique honor of being laid to rest there. TULSA, Okla. — A north Tulsa mother is concerned after she says she found thousands of dollars of unused school supplies and more than a dozen folders of private information from former students.The district says it’s common to get new curricular materials, but have limited storage to keep old materials. One former McKinley Elementary mother says it’s a shame it’s not put to better use.Kat Knight's living room is filled with watercolors, flashcards, unused lesson plans, play-doh, and rulers.“There’s nothing wrong with it," Knight said.“National Geographic, come on people," Knight said. "You can’t update that stuff; it’s history.”It was all found in dumpsters at McKinley Elementary.“I think they’re doing a great disservice to themselves and a lot of people," Knight said.Knight is homeschooling her 5-year-old daughter this year. The supplies she found is saving her thousands of dollars.“I might have saved a little more than ,000," she said. “I understand updating books, I get that. But can we donate these books?”Knight also found tests results from former students and personal information — student ID numbers, addresses, and phone numbers.“I understand if maybe it was a mistake but whose mistake was it?" parent Carolyn Trude said. "Are they going to be punished for this? Because this is wrong.”Tulsa Public Schools says it’s protocol to shred private information, but sometimes mistakes happen.
