SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Across the state of California, there were more than 10,000 sexual harassment offenses, as defined by California education code that resulted in suspension, expulsion or disciplinary diversion.A San Diego mother says her daughter was bullied and sexually harassed at school.“She said that he would take her pencils from her,” said Myiesha Jackson. “If she tried to get them back he would stick them down his pants."Jackson claims the male student didn’t stop there. She claims he took Play-Doh, made it into the shape of a penis and rubbed it on her daughter while making inappropriate sounds."I consider that sexual harassment,” said Jackson. An investigation report Jackson gave to Team 10 says the accused student admitted to rolling up the Play-Doh and holding it up while singing an inappropriate song that was sexual in nature, and the Play-Doh represented a male genitalia part, but the other student denied touching her with it.At the end of the report, it lists an action play, basically separating both students at all points of the day so they wouldn’t come into contact with each other.Jackson says that’s not what happened."The very day I brought her back she was in lunch, the line to get lunch, and they let him out of the office apparently, and he went and stood directly behind her,” she said.Magnolia Science Academy- San Diego denied 10News’ request for an interview. In an emailed statement an attorney for Magnolia Public Schools wrote:“State and federal student confidentiality laws and our organization's policy prohibit MSA-SD from commenting on specific students or incidents in which they may be involved. MSA-SD is committed to the social, emotional and academic well-being of all its students. Any incidents that impact the well-being of a student are reviewed, investigated and responded to with the utmost urgency and thoroughness and addressed according to our internal policies protocols and legal requirements.” 1985

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A University City man is hoping to warn others after someone with a BB gun shot him during his daily jog.On Tuesday, 70-year-old Taurone was nearing the end of his daily three-mile jog northbound on University Town Center Drive just after 6 p.m."Very calm, enjoying the evening. Hardly any traffic out in the neighborhood," said Taurone. On the sidewalk near the Renaissance Towne Center, his calm jog was suddenly interrupted by pain."Jogging along and felt a sharp sting in the lower portion or my chin, so I stopped. It felt like an extremely large pimple. I was pushing on it, and something round and hard came out of my skin fell onto the ground," said Taurone.A stunned Taurone, who didn't have his glasses, didn't look for the apparent BB pellet."When I realized I what it was, and that I had been shot, I was very angry," said Taurone.Taurone, who was shot on the right side of his face, believes the shot came from the shopping center area. He briefly scoured the area but didn't see anyone. Bleeding from his chin, he jogged home. He's doing fine now, but he's still upset."If the shot had been 6 to 8 inches higher, it would have hit me in the eye," said Taurone.Taurone has no clue about a motive, but he knows he was the intended target."Makes sense because I was the only moving target in the area," said Taurone.Taurone has been interviewed by police, who told him they haven't received reports of similar incidents in the area. He's now worried about what may happen next, because of the boldness of the attack. It was still light out, and while the traffic was light at the time, it remains a busy area."If not caught, he or she could do it to other people and cause more even harm," said Taurone.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000. 1826

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Amid the recent protests, a woman once known as the "fugitive soccer mom" is now shining a spotlight on the story of another mother.Among those taking a stand against racial injustice is a small group holding up signs supporting a woman you likely haven't heard about."It serves no purpose to have her in prison," said Susan LeFevre.LeFevre, one of the women holding a sign, is someone you likely have heard of. For more than three decades, the Carmel Valley mother of three had lived a double life, as Marie Walsh. At the age of 19, she was sentenced to 10 to 20 years for a heroin sale in Michigan. Fourteen months later, she climbed a prison fence and began a new life. A police tip led to her arrest and a tidal wave of publicity. More than a year later, she was released from a Michigan prison."I feel bad about the effect on my whole family. We're doing better the last couple of years," said LeFevre.LeFevre says so many years later, her family is still healing. She and her husband divorced several years ago. Since her release, LeFevre, who now lives in Pacific Beach, has advocated for non-violent offenders with long sentences, including a woman she bonded with during the second prison stay: Tracy Cowan, a single mother of three who was sentenced to 20 to 40 years after shes says a bag of drugs belonging to her boyfriend dealer was found in her basement. Cowan has served 18 years."Racism is putting people like Tracy (in prison), ripping her from her children, two of them ended up homeless," said LeFevre.LeFevre says Cowan didn't have the resources to defend herself, a familiar reason for the disproportionate prison rates for African Americans."Eighteen years is absurd when murderers are getting out before her. That's why I'm trying to bring attention to cases like hers. She doesn't belong in prison," said LeFevre.Cowan is scheduled for her first parole hearing in 2023.If you'd like to learn more information about Cowan's case, email SW92130@gmail.com. 2004
