SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students at an East San Diego school will meet Thursday to decide how to honor two classmates murdered in Tijuana this month.Christopher Alexis Gomez, a 17-year-old senior at O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto, and 18-year-old Juan Suarez-Ojeda, who graduated from the same school last year, were found shot to death in Tijuana on Nov. 25. Gomez's cousin, Katheryn Garcia, told 10News Wednesday that the two teens were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style and left in front of the Lomas Verdes housing complex.Another teen believed to be Ojeda's friend was also killed.Students at O'Farrell Charter are set to meet with school officials Thursday to decide how to honor their two classmates. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday, San Diego's crown jewel, Balboa Park, turns 150 years old.San Diego will celebrate the founding of the iconic park on May 26 during the second annual Fiesta Botanica. The historic day will be marked with a parade, kids activities, park tours, butterfly and ladybug releases, and much more.Live performances are also planned at the park's Botanical Garden and Spreckels Organ Pavilion.In 1868, the City of San Diego moved to set aside 1,400 acres of land for the area then known as "City Park." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego State University kicked off its 2020-21 school year Monday with almost all classes online in an attempt to keep students safe and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.While most classes are virtual this fall semester, there are many students who are still living on campus or having to go to school for other matters.Normally, SDSU would have about 7,500 students living on campus. As of the start of this school year, that number is down to 2,600.In addition to the lower number of students living on campus, the university created strict rules for moving in and having guests.The school is trying a positive messaging approach and hoping they can avoid outbreaks similar to what has happened at other colleges in the U.S.ABC 10News learned one SDSU student tested positive for the virus last week and is in self isolation.SDSU fraternities have imposed their own ban on social events this fall, and all recruitment events will be virtual with no in-person interaction.Fall sports have also been postponed due to the pandemic.The university is not testing students who arrive on campus, but testing is available on site.If students test positive or are exposed to COVID-19, SDSU has a detailed isolation and quarantine plan in place.As if having to deal with the pandemic wasn’t enough for SDSU -- students ABC 10News talked to weren't aware of the nationwide Zoom outages Monday, as classes were just beginning, and the school did not immediately responded as to whether the issues affected any of the first day's classes. 1562
