SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Nearly 6,000 San Diego workers have reportedly been laid off amid the coronavirus outbreak, but the actual number could be 60 times higher, according to officials at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. The agency estimates there are at least 350,000 San Diego workers at risk of losing their jobs, the majority of them in service sectors like hotels, restaurants and retail, where there is no option to work from home. However, the state has eliminated the 60-day public layoff notification requirement amid the outbreak, so it is unclear how many people are no longer working. The partnership is now taking a multi-pronged approach to getting people back to work. It is focusing on finding employers who have a need today, such as those in delivery, transportation and logistics. It is also working with Amazon to set up mobile job expos. "We can shuffle people around and try to make sure as many people sit down as possible but at the end of the song, there's fewer chairs than there are workers."The Partnership reports hotels comprise 37 of the 52 San Diego employers that have sent them layoff information. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly 140 pounds of liquid methamphetamine and two pounds of heroin were discovered inside a vehicle’s gas tank and spare tire at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says.According to the agency, the drugs were discovered after a detector dog alerted officers to the undercarriage of the vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Monday.Following the alert, officers guided the driver, a 52-year-old woman who is a citizen of Mexico and lawful U.S. resident, to a secure location for inspection.RELATED: Previously-deported sex offender arrested by Border Patrol in San DiegoThat’s when, according to CBP, officers found the drugs hidden inside the gas tank and spare tire.The driver was turned over to agents with Homeland Security Investigations while a 71-year-old female passenger was released.The narcotics are estimated to have a value of 5,000. 901

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Quiet neighborhood walks have turned disturbing for a growing number of women in Rancho Bernardo.Along Paseo Lucido, feet from a park, Lauren was walking her dog one early evening two weeks ago. She walked past the passenger side of an older, white, 2-door Toyota."The front windows were down and the seat was back ... looked over inside the car and saw he was exposing himself and touching himself," said Lauren.'He' was a large man in his 30s with short dark hair."He smiled when he saw me looking. I immediately looked away. Just very anxious and scared," said Lauren.Lauren took off for a neighbor's house. When she returned minutes later, the car was gone. About a week later - around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday - Robbie was blocks away on Avenida Venusto when a similar car, driven by a man with a similar description, pulled ahead of her and parked in a red zone."Kind of slouched back. He has his pants down, and he's actively touching himself," said Robbie.And again, the stranger met a woman's glance before driving off."And he looked up at me with a big smile on his face," said Robbie. These women aren't alone, as Lauren found out when she posted her incident on the Nextdoor app for her area."There are at least seven other women who have encountered this person in the last few months," said Lauren.In many cases, the women report the car pulling ahead and stopping. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Protesters are demanding a change to how sex education is taught to students in California. They say a law passed a few years ago and written by local Assemblywoman Dr. Shirley Weber is sexualizing young minds. The group of protesters is with the Alliance to Protect Children. They tell 10News they are for sex ed in school, but the law is teaching students more than what parents are comfortable with. “It feels like its a disrespect to all mothers and children everywhere,” said mother of two Domonique Hinton. Dozens of protesters stood outside Dr. Shirley Weber’s office downtown Friday morning, speaking against Assembly Bill 329 that was written and passed in 2015. The bill makes it mandatory for students 7th through 12th grade to be taught sex education, but it also gives schools the option to offer the age-appropriate curriculum to lower grades. AB 329 states, “‘Comprehensive sexual health education means education regarding human development and sexuality, including education on pregnancy, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections.”Protesters say graphic details of sexuality should not be taught in schools. “That is not the same as sex ed like we probably had in high school or middle school. That's something different,” says organizer America Figueroa. “Just that word, sexuality, it includes a lot of things in it like the teaching of other ideologies as well as sexual behaviors.”The group says a new bill will be introduced next year that will allow parents to review the curriculum online, so there is complete transparency. 10News reached out to Dr. Weber’s team. I asked him about the possibility of pursing Manny Machado on the free agent market."Machado, I think, is somebody that every team would like," Fowler said before adding the dreaded "but" to the sentence.
