Three NBA teams — Atlanta Hawks, Utah Jazz, and Memphis Grizzlies — have announced that they would allow a limited number of fans at games during the 2020-21 season amid the coronavirus pandemic.Last season, teams played in a bubble setting in Orlando, Florida. This season, teams will be traveling from city to city once again.Earlier in November, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced they would have a limited number of fans at the beginning of its season, but on Monday, the team changed course and decided to not allow fans at games due to rising COVID cases in the state."For months, we have worked in close collaboration with Chesapeake Energy Arena, the City of Oklahoma City, local health officials, and the NBA to put into place thorough health and safety measures to allow for reduced seating capacity," the team said in a press release. "However, as we review ongoing and concerning trends in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Oklahoma, we want to exercise an abundance of caution to help control the spread of the virus in our community. Therefore, the Thunder has made the decision to begin the season without fans in the arena."The Utah Jazz announced that they would allow a limited number of fans at their home games. According to KSTU, Vivint Arena will allow 1,500 fans in the suites and lower bowl. Fans must wear face coverings and social distance while inside the arena.KSTU reported that the arena would reduce capacity in elevators, retail stores, and restrooms.Another NBA team that's allowing fans this season will be the Atlanta Hawks. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a small number of friends and family will attend the first few home games at State Farm Arena. Approximately 1,500 fans will be able to watch the Hawks game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.And according to the Memphis Grizzlies, the seating capacity at the FedExForum will be at about 20% capacity. The Grizzlies said that everyone inside the arena would need to wear a mask at all times, and everyone will need to social distance. The team also announced that they would install more than 300 hand sanitizing stations would be placed throughout the arena for easy and ample access for guests.The 2020-21 season is set to tipoff Dec. 22, with teams playing 72 games. And last week, the league announced the structuring and format of how games were to be played during the coronavirus pandemic.In a press release, the league said that the regular-season would be released in two segments: the first half schedule will be released around the start of training camp, which is reportedly beginning the first week of December. The league will release the second-half portion towards the end of the first half of the season.Other notable changes occurring this season, per a press release by the league:Each team will play three games against each intraconference opponent, with each pairing featuring either two home games and one road game or one home game and two road games. There are now 286 cases of possible and confirmed acute flaccid myelitis in the United States this year, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.That includes 116 confirmed cases of the rare polio-like illness, also known as AFM, that leads to sudden onset of paralysis. That's 10 more confirmed cases than the agency reported a week ago. An additional 170 possible cases of AFM are under investigation.More than 90% of the 440 patients with AFM since 2014 have been children younger than age 4. Times Square was a hive of activity Tuesday afternoon, as more than 40,000 bees swarmed a hot dog stand at the corner of Broadway and West 43rd Street.Known as an absconded hive, the bees were looking for a new home to escape the sweltering heat, said Officer Darren Mays, one of the New York Police Department's two official beekeepers."The hive got overcrowded because it was hot and humid and they just needed a new place to go so they can keep cool," Mays said. He also runs the official NYPD Bees Twitter account, which was buzzing with likes and retweets as many New Yorkers learned that their police force had beekeepers on staff.Mays said the bees likely went looking for a new home after leaving one of the rooftop hives of a nearby building.Second-beekeeper-in-command, Officer Michael Lauriano, responded to the scene in full protective gear, including a netted bee helmet. It took Lauriano 45 minutes to carefully vacuum the bees. The street was cordoned off and no injuries were reported, according to the NYPD.Mays confirmed the bees have been safely stored in a hive box and are being transported by police van to an apiary on Long Island."Unfortunately, they won't be able to make any honey this season," said Mays, explaining that they will have to be well fed to make it through the winter.Mays, who has served since 2014 as the NYPD's beekeeper in addition to his regular duties, said this has been one of the slowest bee seasons in recent years. But this election, Democrats aren't forgetting about Nebraska, or more specifically, Omaha. DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY Nebraska and Maine are the two states that award their Electoral College votes based off results in individual congressional districts. For instance, in 2008, John McCain and Barack Obama both received Electoral College votes from Nebraska. In Nebraska, two Electoral College votes goes to the statewide winner and one Electoral College vote goes to the winner in each of the state's three congressional districts. A total of five Electoral College votes is at stake. While Trump will again carry the statewide vote and two of the state's congressional districts, it is unclear what will happen in the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Omaha, Nebraska. Democrats believe there is a chance. "For whatever the reason, there are a lot of Democrats and independents saying they are going to vote for Biden," Bob Kerrey, the former Democratic governor and U.S. Senator from Nebraska, said. Republicans aren't conceding by any stretch, although they acknowledge it will be close. "We have more people than ever with boots on the ground knocking on doors," Theresa Thibodeau, chair of the Douglas County GOP, which includes Omaha, said. HOW IT COULD COME DOWN TO OMAHA If the election is close, there is a scenario where it all comes down to Omaha. If the projections in most states hold true -- and Trump wins the swing states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania & one congressional district in Maine and Joe Biden wins the battleground states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin -- how Omaha votes could decide the election. DEMOCRATS VS REPUBLICANS Of course Republicans in Nebraska don't particularly like the way in which their state allocates votes. "We should move our state back to a winner takes all," Thibodeau said. Former Senator Kerrey, obviously, disagrees.
