SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Newly unsealed court documents reveal how investigators were able to identify the suspected Church's Chicken shooter.Albert Lee Blake, 49, was arrested weeks after the shooting erupted inside of the Otay Mesa West restaurant. Blake is accused of shooting three employees and killing Maribel Ibanez. The shooting happened after an argument stemming from Blake allegedly trying to use a fake 0 dollar bill to purchase food. A number of witnesses gave similar descriptions of the man seen shooting inside of the Church's Chicken. Witnesses reported the man coming back into the restaurant after the argument, standing in line, then shooting at employees. Police ran the license plate through their database and found a match. The same vehicle was connected to a stop in September and the driver then was Albert Blake. Investigators say Blake used the phone to contact his wife and a woman he was dating, right after the shooting.The car he was driving was registered to his wife. In the documents the wife, Amy Collins, says the two have been separated for three years, but she allowed him to use the car.She also told investigators that when she asked for the car back, Blake told her she would never get it back and that he would "blow the vehicle up."According to the documents, investigators later went to the girlfriend's apartment in Spring Valley. Blake was captured in Memphis, Tenn., and brought back to San Diego where he was formally charged.The documents don't reveal how he was tracked down to Tennessee.He was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He faces up to 114 years to life in prison. Blake is due back in court for a preliminary hearing in February. 3040

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New data shows that home sales in Southern California could be dipping, while sales in San Diego County are on the rise. The data from CoreLogic shows that the sale of existing housing sold in Southern California in April of 2018 was down nearly four percent since March of 2018.In San Diego County, however, home sales increased by more than five percent in April. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Passengers from the Grand Princess cruise ship will be quarantined at MCAS Miramar amid coronavirus fears, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Sunday.According to the Department, the ship will dock temporarily in a non-passenger port in the San Francisco Bay. Passengers will then be transferred to several federal military facilities throughout the country for medical screening, COVID-19 testing, and a 14-day quarantine. The earliest they could arrive is Tuesday, according to a DoD spokesperson.The nearly 1,000 passengers who are California residents will complete the quarantine at MCAS Miramar and Travis Air Force Base. It's unclear how many of the 1,000 passengers will be housed at Miramar. "MCAS Miramar is preparing to support HHS and their federally mandated quarantine for Grand Princess travelers," a spokesperson for the base said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly 140 pounds of liquid methamphetamine and two pounds of heroin were discovered inside a vehicle’s gas tank and spare tire at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says.According to the agency, the drugs were discovered after a detector dog alerted officers to the undercarriage of the vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Monday.Following the alert, officers guided the driver, a 52-year-old woman who is a citizen of Mexico and lawful U.S. resident, to a secure location for inspection.RELATED: Previously-deported sex offender arrested by Border Patrol in San DiegoThat’s when, according to CBP, officers found the drugs hidden inside the gas tank and spare tire.The driver was turned over to agents with Homeland Security Investigations while a 71-year-old female passenger was released.The narcotics are estimated to have a value of 5,000. 901

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Once election results start to come in, some of the races could be so close to call that they could lead to legal battles in court. Eugene Volokh, a constitutional law professor at UCLA, explained that it is likely some races could be so close that we won't know the results for a few days, maybe even weeks. When it comes to the presidential race, Volokh said that if the results are a landslide, the likelihood of legal challenges are close to none. If it's a tight race, Volokh said we could see litigation in states where it is just too close to call. Recounts are also possible, but the professor said that it wouldn't be a national recount; instead, it would only focus on the states that have tight races. Across the country, there have already been some legal battles. In Houston, a federal judge refused to invalidate nearly 127,000 drive-thru mail-in ballots following a lawsuit filed by a group of Republicans. In Nevada, a judge rejected another GOP lawsuit aiming to stop early voting over signature-matching software and observers when votes are being counted. If there is need for legal action, in any of the races, Volokh said it would likely be resolved in a couple of weeks. 1221
