More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled after receiving reports that blades were detaching from the fan while in use, which the company said could cause injuries.According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 182,000 of the Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor fans were sold in the U.S. in stores and online from April through October 2020. Home Depot also sold 8,800 fans in Canada. The CPSC said 47 reports of the blades detaching have caused two people being struck and four accounts of the blades causing property damage. It was not reported if the people hit were injured. The CPSC said the recalled fans come in matte white, matte black, black, and polished nickel finishes. The fans also came with a white color changing integrated LED light and remote control.UPC #Matte White082392519186Matte Black082392519193Black082392599195Polished Nickel082392599188Consumers are asked to immediately stop using the ceiling fans and inspect the ceiling fans using the instructions. The CPSC says if consumers observe "blade movement or uneven gaps between the blades and fan body or movement of the clip during the inspection," to immediately contact the distributor King of Fans for a free replacement ceiling fan. 1286

Natural disasters can cause a storm of emotions. After Hurricane Laura pounded parts of Gulf coast, people lost power and hope.“People are getting aggressive,” said a local man. “They’re getting angry, you know.”In Alexandria, Louisiana, people are pushed to their limits. They are tired and hungry, but unable to feed their bodies or get good rest. Forget looking for a way to recover and rebuild, right now these people are just trying to get through the day.“Oh, yeah. they’re panicking, man,” said one local man. “Road rage. running stop signs.”Often when power goes down, opportunities pop up. Lee Evans drove a trailer of generators down from Birmingham, Alabama.“They start at 0 and then they go up to ,850 for the 10,000’s,” he told potential customers. Many people are paying top dollar, even if they can barely afford to.“You got to survive someway,” said Gerald Cooper of Pineville, after purchasing one.Even local police are looking to make a purchase and avoid the long lines at the Lowe’s across the street.Across town at the local gas station, the pumps are off and people are running on empty.“Losing a home was bad enough and then come up here they treat you like this,” said one woman whose house was destroyed in Lake Charles. “It’s wrong.”“I don’t know if I can take one more thing,” she said.As people struggle to survive on ground zero, they look to a higher power.“If ya’ll got some strong prayer teams,” said one local, “pray for us because we need it here in Louisiana.” 1507
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - We’ve known for months about the dangers of the coronavirus spreading in crowded public places but we are now learning new information about the danger of COVID-19 spreading inside your home. The new study from Vanderbilt University Medical Center reveals how vulnerable family members can be inside a home where someone has contracted the coronavirus."What we found is COVID spreads very rapidly and very quickly inside a home," said Dr. Keipp Talbot of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.Just how fast? The study found half of all family members in a home with someone infected with COVID-19 will also get COVID-19, usually within just five days."Once it's in your house, it's very hard to keep from spreading, and you don't know who in your home will be susceptible, and they'll need to be hospitalized," Talbot said. The research adds a new dimension to public health guidelines that largely focus on social distancing outside your home -- guidelines that doctors say work if everyone in the home follows those guidelines while outside."However, if you or anyone in the family goes outside the bubble, and does anything that's risky -- large groups, bars, not wearing your mask -- they can come back into that bubble and put everyone in that bubble at risk," Talbot said. This story was first reported by Jason Lamb at WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee. 1379
