WASHINGTON - Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have teamed up to make a push to keep Daylight Saving Time across the country during the pandemic.It’s the latest push by Florida lawmakers to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.On Wednesday, Scott and Rubio released a joint statement saying they will introduce legislation to keep the United States on Daylight Saving Time through November 7, 2021.Daylight Saving Time is scheduled to end for the year on Sunday, November 1.The senators say their bill will help provide stability for families dealing with enough change with virtual learning, working from home and other disruptions the COVID-19 pandemic has caused.“After months of staying inside amid the coronavirus pandemic, families across the nation could use a little more sunshine and time to enjoy all that Florida has to offer… I’m glad to join Senator Rubio to lead this effort in Congress,” Scott said in a statement.In 2018, Florida lawmakers approved a bill to keep Florida on Daylight Saving Time permanently. But it can't be enacted without congressional approval.“Our government has asked a lot of the American people over the past seven months, and keeping the nation on Daylight Saving Time is just one small step we can take to help ease the burden,” Rubio said.Legislation to make daylights savings time permanent has also been introduced in Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Vermont. Similar legislation has been struck down in Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.Hawaii does not observe Daylight Saving Time and neither does Arizona, minus the Navajo Nation in the northeastern part of the state, according to NASA. WASHINGTON (AP) — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she is receiving chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer, but has no plans to retire from the Supreme Court. The 87-year-old Ginsburg said her treatment so far has succeeded in reducing lesions on her liver and that she will continue chemotherapy sessions every two weeks. She spent time in the hospital this week for a possible infection, but Ginsburg said it was unrelated to the cancer.Here is Friday's full statement as distributed by the court to several outlets, including CNN:"On May 19, I began a course of chemotherapy (gemcitabine) to treat a recurrence of cancer. A periodic scan in February followed by a biopsy revealed lesions on my liver. My recent hospitalizations to remove gall stones and treat an infection were unrelated to this recurrence.Immunotherapy first essayed proved unsuccessful. The chemotherapy course, however, is yielding positive results. Satisfied that my treatment course is now clear, I am providing this information.My most recent scan on July 7 indicated significant reduction of the liver lesions and no new disease. I am tolerating chemotherapy well and am encouraged by the success of my current treatment. I will continue bi-weekly chemotherapy to keep my cancer at bay, and am able to maintain an active daily routine. Throughout, I have kept up with opinion writing and all other Court work.I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. Earlier, two people familiar with the matter confirmed that the newly approved vaccine from Pfizer would be made available to those who work in close quarters with the nation’s top elected officials. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed in the 100 block of Estrelita Drive in Vista Friday night. Police say the white pickup truck involved in the crash fled the scene. The crash happened at 8:18 p.m., according to police. Two hours later police found an abandoned vehicle down the road that matches the pickup described in the crash. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Jury selection is expected to take all week in the trial of former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II. The San Diego football star and son of Chargers Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow Senior pleaded not guilty to charges that he raped two homeless women in Encinitas last year. He's also charged with raping an unconscious seventeen-year-old girl back when Winslow was nineteen. Prosecutors say he was out of custody on million bail in connection with the felony case when he got in trouble again. Prosecutors say he fondled himself in front of a 77- year-old woman at a Carlsbad gym, asked her if she liked it, and groped her while she was in a hot tub at the same gym.Jan Ronis is a San Diego defense attorney not affiliated with the case, but watching it closely. "From what I've seen at the preliminary examination, everyone that testified seemed to have a lot of credibility. These were older women, you would extend the greatest credibility to that kind of witness," said Ronis. Winslow played ten seasons with the NFL. His defense team is reportedly planning to call two psychiatrists to testify. It's unclear if CTE, or Chronic traumatic encephalopathy will play a role in that defense. Ronis says it might not make a difference. "You can still be responsible for your conduct , criminally responsible, after having sustained a traumatic brain injury or something of that nature. It's different than say, your mental health issue was such that rendered you incapable of understanding the nature of your conduct that you couldn't understand the difference between right and wrong, " said Ronis.
