Renting a home or condo for a vacation is more popular than ever, thanks to websites such as Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway.Unfortunately, a growing number of those rentals are coming with an unwelcome surprise: hidden cameras that record your every move. It’s happening more and more. Just last month, a British couple found a hidden camera inside the alarm clock in their Toronto Airbnb rental.Last fall, a couple on a Florida vacation found a camera hidden in a smoke detector in the bedroom of their Longboat Key condo. They even found the footage it took of them, stored on a miniature hard drive. Why are spy cameras are showing up in more and more rentals?Simple: It’s so easy for owners to do it.A few years ago you needed expensive equipment and wires to hook up a miniature camera. Now you can get a tiny webcam for or less on Amazon and hide it anywhere. 901
RANCHO SANTA FE (CNS) - Authorities Friday were searching for a driver who fled after crashing a Ferrari into a power pole in Rancho Santa Fe, knocking out electricity to 84 customers in the area. The crash, involving a 2012 Ferrari, was reported shortly before 10:20 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Avenida de Acacias and La Granada, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said. The crash caused the 40-foot power pole to fall to the ground, leaving 84 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the area in the dark, SDG&E spokesman Wes Jones said.As of 8:30 this morning, electricity had been restored to all but three customers, who were expected to be back on line by noon, Jones said. The northbound and southbound lanes of Avenida De Acacias were expected to be closed from La Granada to Via De La Cumbre until around 3 p.m. while crews worked to replace the power pole. 903

Prince Andrew's legal team has told CNN that they will not comment on the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell, a day after an acting U.S. Attorney urged him to come forward with information about the case.On Thursday, Maxwell was charged with four counts relating to her alleged involvement in recruiting and trafficking underage girls for Epstein and two counts of perjury. Epstein himself was arrested and charged with trafficking in 2019, but weeks later was found dead in his jail cell.In announcing the charges against Maxwell on Thursday, Audrey Strauss — the acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York — urged anyone with information about the case to come forward, particularly Prince Andrew."We would welcome Prince Andrew coming in to talk with us. We would like to have the benefit of his statement," Strauss said in response to a question about Prince Andrew's involvement in the case.Prince Andrew was a known associate of Epstein and even stayed at his New York apartment in 2010 — two years after Epstein pleaded guilty to sex crimes. Prince Andrew also appears in a photograph with Maxwell and a girl who has since claimed Prince Andrew and Epstein abused her.The Duke of York has strongly denied any wrongdoing in his connection to the case.Sources also told CNN that Prince Andrew's legal team says it's "bewildered" and claimed the team has communicated with the Justice Department twice in the last month. Prince Andrew's representatives claim they never received a response from the Justice Department.British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also refused to comment on the matter Friday, saying he cannot be expected to comment on matters relating to the Royal Family."It's just not the tradition; it's not what we do," Johnson said. 1767

President Donald Trump tweeted on Friday that he has signed an executive order calling for stiff punishment against those who damage statues and monuments. The order comes days after protesters attempted to topple a statue of President Andrew Jackson from Lafayette Park near the White House. Dozens of officers moved in to push the protesters back.In recent weeks, there have been calls from supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement to remove statues and monuments of those tied to slavery and the Confederacy. Those calls have been met with swift opposition from Trump and fellow Republican leaders. But the movement has found support from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Califfornia, who has asked for 11 statues in the Capitol of Confederate leaders being removed from the complex. “We are looking at long-term jail sentences for these vandals and these hoodlums and these anarchists and agitators,” Trump said earlier this week.Trump later added in an interview with Fox News, “We should learn from the history. And if you don’t understand your history, you will go back to it again."“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues - and combatting recent Criminal Violence. Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!” Trump tweeted late Friday. The executive order calls for federal laws to be used to arrest those who topple statues and monuments, but it's unclear how the order will be largely enforced across the country. The majority of statues and monuments that have been targeted have not been federal government property. To read the full text of the order, click here. 1690
