CINCINNATI -- Kroger Co. has joined Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart in tightening its policy on gun sales after a school shooting killed 17 in Parkland, Florida. The Wall Street Journal reports the Cincinnati-based grocery chain will stop selling guns to anybody under 21 at 43 Fred Meyer locations, mostly located in western states."Recent events demonstrate the need for additional action on the part of responsible gun retailers," the company wrote in a statement to CNBC. "We believe these are common sense steps we can take immediately that are in line with our values and our vision." On Wednesday morning, Dick's Sporting Goods, the nation's largest sporting goods retailer, announced it would?stop selling assault-style weapons and raise its minimum age for gun purchases to 21. (CNS) - The family of a 56-year-old man who died earlier this year following an encounter with Chula Vista police announced Monday they are filing a pair of wrongful death lawsuits against the city.The lawsuits seek the names of the officers involved in the March 13 call for service that culminated in Oral Nunis' death.Both lawsuits are being filed in San Diego federal and state courts on behalf of four of Nunis' children, including his daughter Kimone, who called 911 shortly after midnight March 13 after her father began experiencing a mental health issue and attempted to jump out of a second-story window.While addressing reporters at a news conference announcing the lawsuits, Kimone Nunis said responding officers did not speak to her or ask her what was happening with her father when they arrived."That night, I just wanted help. I picked up the phone. I didn't know what I was getting myself into," she said.Attorneys for the family say officers tackled Nunis outside the home and "dogpiled" atop him, placed him in a WRAP restraint device and put a "spit hood" over his head.In a statement released shortly after Nunis' death, the police department said he was restrained to prevent him from hurting himself or others. The department also alleged Nunis was "uncooperative with officers and struggled as they attempted to detain him," resulting in injuries to two of the officers.The federal lawsuit alleges Nunis was unconscious and unresponsive after the altercation, and that those restraints were placed upon him while he was unconscious.Nunis was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.Attorney John Burris, who represents the family, said police should have responded by de-escalating the situation."Mr. Nunis was seeking help. The family was seeking help. But instead of getting help, he was met with force," Burris said.A similar lawsuit was filed last month on behalf of Nunis' widow and three other children. Their attorney, Carl Douglas, alleged the city has withheld Nunis' cause of death, while a statement released by the city last month indicated his cause of death has not yet been determined."The City of Chula Vista understands and shares the public's and the family's desire to have all of their questions answered about this incident. However, it is premature and inappropriate to come to any conclusions at this time," according to the city's statement in response to that lawsuit. "The investigation is ongoing, and the true cause of death has not been determined by the Medical Examiner. Because of this, and now the threat of litigation, the City and the Police Department must refrain from commenting further beyond the statements already made. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A 29-year-old man was stabbed in the torso and leg Friday morning at a homeless encampment in Chula Vista, police said.Firefighters requested police assistance at 4:30 a.m. after responding to a report of an injured man in the 2400 block of Main Street, east of Interstate 5, Chula Vista police Lt. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A South Bay couple said they were able to pay off their mortgage by renting out their home on the weekends.“We paid off our house, and now we weekend on a boat. It’s incredible,” said Chris Morrow.Stepping into Chris Morrow’s backyard is like crossing a plane into an outdoor oasis. It's filled with toys, games, and multiple spots where you can pull up a chair and relax."You want to use every space of your backyard,” Morrow said.But having a dream backyard and a home in Chula Vista was once just a dream."Being a journalist, you don’t make a lot of money these days -- you follow your heart. Living in San Diego County, which is a resort town, you need to be creative,” Morrow said.Morrow is a CNN iReporter and a food and travel writer. About five years ago, before the housing market got hot, she and her husband leveraged their money and bought the Chula Vista home."I never even thought about Chula Vista, but it's a beautiful area,” she said. “I have a 1947 craftsman home, natural wood floors, beautiful plaster walls. There's a lot of uniqueness to it.”Morrow’s turned that charm into a small business: an Airbnb rental. It’s a move that drastically changed her life."Everybody wants to live that American dream, and we're doing it because we're renting this house out for Airbnb,” she said.Here's how they did it. Morrow said a few years into homeownership, she tried renting out just one of their rooms. It was a good first step, but it didn't bring in any extra cash. Morrow said they ended up spending most of the money on the guest they were hosting."I wasn't able to use that money for anything else, just entertaining,” she said.They decided to up the ante. Instead of renting out one room, Morrow said they rented out the entire house. It meant adding beds, furniture and moving into a hotel on the weekends."The first time we decided to rent the house we were so nervous,” Morrow said. “We must have driven by the house at least six times just to make sure they weren't having a huge party that you hear about in those movies."The decision was a hit. Now their rental can host up 16 people. The going rate is anywhere from 0 to ,800 a night. They’re regularly hosting large groups and have even done a wedding in the backyard. Most weekends are booked solid."We've paid this house off, and we were able to buy a boat, we're able to pay for the gas for the boat,” Morrow said.The extra income means they don't have to stay at a hotel on the weekends. Instead, they purchased a two-cabin, one-bath, 41-foot sport fisher boat. The purchase made possible by renting out her house."We’re living the dream,” she said. “We're staying here (the boat) on the weekends, and we're loving it.”In a resort town, one of the more expensive places in the country, Morrow is not only surviving, but she's also thriving. All it took was a little ingenuity and trust in people."We are creatively living the American dream,” she said.Tips for being a successful 5-star rental takes more than just renting out your house to be successful.
