SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A U.S. Marine stationed at MCAS Miramar has tested presumptive positive for coronavirus after returning from leave in Washington state.The Marine was returning to the base from leave in Washington state where he was visiting family, which is where officials believe he contracted the virus, officials on base familiar with the matter told 10News.A high level source in the military added that the Marine was tested on base for the virus after feeling ill and placed into quarantine while results were pending. The Marine is currently at home under quarantine, off base, that source added.A second Marine who returned from leave in Washington with the first service member is currently considered a person under investigation at Camp Pendleton. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego researcher is looking into whether social media affects the teenage brain the same way as marijuana.Dr. Kara Bagot, a child psychiatrist and assistant professor at the University of California San Diego, believes her findings could change how medical professionals view adolescents' usage of various social media. “Kids keep using social media even in the face of negative consequences,” said Dr. Bagot, “and that’s what we see with drug usage as well.” Bagot’s team will scan 60 teens’ brains as they look at images from social media and then pictures of marijuana. “No one will be smoking for this study,” added Bagot, “we’re not that progressive.” They are still compiling results and recruiting more teenagers for the study, but anticipate having it complete by summer. The study is a part of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) initiative, a nationwide effort tracking more than 12,000 children across a decade. 969

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An East San Diego County military wife whose husband is accused of poisoning her with thallium is facing intensive rehabilitation, according to a GoFundMe account in her name.Race Uto, 27, was arrested in March on suspicion of giving his wife Brigida the heavy metal, which is found in rat poison and ant killers.A search warrant obtained by 10News indicated Brigida Uto had been sick since September 2017 and did not know the cause. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A small brush fire in University City led to train delays between Sorrento Valley and Old Town Thursday, according to the North County Transit District. The first-alarm vegetation fire broke about just before 2 p.m. in a riverbed off Porte De Merano north of SR-52, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The brush burned into heavy fuel, officials said, before being stamped out.“Please expect delays on COASTER service,” NCTD posted on Twitter. The train tracks were shut down in the area due to the fire, but reopened just before 2:30 p.m.There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.10News is monitoring breaking developments. 662

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Police officer shot an aggressive dog while responding to a domestic violence call Monday afternoon, police say.According to police, the incident happened on the 4200 block of Colina Del Sol around 3 p.m.While responding to the call, the dog reportedly attacked and bit the officer, who then shot the dog.Police say the officer received medical attention at the scene. It’s not clear of the dog survived.No other injuries were reported. 476
