SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A North San Diego County teenager was taken into custody Thursday after reportedly making threats to Torrey Pines High School.School administrators reached out to San Diego Police Thursday morning after a 14-year-old freshman was suspended for making verbal and written threats.While investigating, police found that the teen committed the crime of making criminal threats.Officers went to the 14-year-old boy's home around noon on Larkfield Court near El Camino Real and Del Mar Road in Carmel Valley. The boy was taken to the San Diego Juvenile Hall Detention Facility.RELATED: Parents warned of threats to 3 San Diego County schoolsThe teen's father cooperated with officers and the family's home is not being searched at this time, according to investigators.Later Thursday night, police went back to the home where they served a search warrant. Officers spent less than an hour searching the home. It's unclear what exactly, if anything, police found in the 14-year-old's possession. Following the incident, Superintendent Eric Dill released the following statement:"We are working cooperatively with the San Diego Police Department as they investigate a possible threat involving a student. The police contacted the student off-campus. At no time were our students or school in danger. We would like to thank the concerned students who brought this matter to our attention. We encourage all students to report their concerns. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new plan is calling for more than 170,000 new homes across the San Diego region over the next decade.The San Diego Association of Governments says the region needs 171,685 housing units by 2029 to meet demand. On Friday, its board approved a plan that divvied up those units across the region's 18 cities and unincorporated county based on a formula of job growth and access to transit. "We are in the midst of a housing crisis. It's time to act. Doing things the same way is not going to give us a different result," said San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. The debate at the SANDAG meeting lasted about four hours, with some of the county's smaller cities saying the plan gave them an undue burden they could not meet. "It is impossible," said National City councilman Ron Morrison, who is not on the board. "Our urban reserve is the weeds behind the backstop in the little field. There is no place to build."National City's mayor Alejandra Sotello-Solis supported the proposal. Most of the homes, 107,901, will go in the City of San Diego. Chula Vista will be responsible for 11,105; Imperial Beach will add 1,375; Coronado 1,001, and Del Mar 163. Del Mar Deputy Mayor Ellie Haviland voted in favor of the plan, though she said she didn't know where those 163 homes could go. "If we are pushing housing away from transit and away from jobs, then that is not going to work with the regional transportation plan we are trying to build," she said. Del Mar Councilwoman Terry Gaasterland, who opposes the plan but did not have a vote, noted Del Mar added 20 housing units in the past 10 years. The board initially voted down the proposal, but Faulconer then called for a weighted vote based on population - getting the necessary votes to pass.Coronado, Lemon Grove, Imperial Beach, Poway, Escondido, Santee, Solana Beach, Vista, El Cajon. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A group of activists are upset after the San Diego Police Department rescheduled a Black History Month celebration for the department's current and former black police officers.The department's celebration was scheduled to take place Saturday, February 24th, but was canceled just days before. The group says a committee of officers was appointed to plan the event in January. They think the cancellation was politically motivated. Monica Montgomery spoke during a brief press conference on Monday at the Civic Center Plaza. She thinks the decision to reschedule the event was made after the keynote speaker was announced. The speaker was supposed to be Geneviéve Jones-Wright, the candidate for San Diego district attorney. She's running against interim D.A., Summer Stephan. The police department told 10News the event was rescheduled due to planning conflicts. Lt. Scott Wahl said they plan on notifying officers when a new date is set. The D.A. sent 10News the following statement: "District Attorney Summer was not involved in the planning or the rescheduling of this event." 1143

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A random act of kindness at a Rancho Bernardo grocery store has a grateful grandma paying it forward. Kathy Yezarski went to the Albertsons at Rancho Bernardo and Poway Roads Friday night to buy milk and cereal for her grandchildren, who were staying at her home. She was about to pay for her groceries when she noticed a problem. “When I got to the checkout I was really embarrassed to see that I didn’t have my wallet,” Yezarski said. Yezarski thought she’d have to leave the items behind and return home when “a very kind young man” noticed her dilemma. “The man behind me very quickly said ‘I’ve got this,’” Yezarski said. Yezarski was mortified she had forgotten her wallet. “It was really touching to me…heartwarming that he would do that for someone.” Yezarski was so moved, she posted about the kind act on the Nextdoor app for her neighborhood. She was hoping the young man would see the post but she wasn’t expecting the reaction she received. “I didn’t realize when I posted until after I posted that two previous posts had been about recent shootings, and I think people were just reeling from that, feeling so upset and I think they needed to hear something positive. A lot of people said that: thank you for restoring my faith in humanity,” Yezarski said. She was inspired to perform a kind act of her own. “Beyond just thanking him, I thought - I’ve got to pay this forward. I went on the website for the San Diego Food Bank and donated. I thought, wow, I can’t just let this stop here, I can’t. I need to do that, he triggered this desire in me to pay this forward.” Yezarski hopes the young man realizes the power of his generosity. “I would want to tell him ‘you’re awesome’, you are just an amazing person and just thank you because you started something that really touched a lot of people,” she said. 1848
