SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - National Guard troops have not been at the border for too long, but are already making their presence felt.Border Patrol officers last week arrested a 31-year-old woman on Interstate 15 they say was transporting 51 bundles of methamphetamine in her vehicle.The woman's vehicle was transported to a Border Patrol facility where agents continued searching the vehicle with the help of National Guardsman who have recently been deployed to the border.RELATED: Border Patrol officials discuss National Guard deployment to US-Mexico borderDuring the secondary search, agents initially did not locate any additional narcotics, officials said. Eventually, a National Guardsman found another 11 bundles of meth hidden deep within a door panel.In all, border agents discovered more than 68 pounds of meth valued at 6,000."Although the California National Guardsman have been on duty for only a couple of weeks, they have quickly fit in and are a great asset in assisting the Border Patrol to protect our communities," San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott said.The woman has been turned over to Riverside County law enforcement and faces narcotics smuggling charges.RELATED: Thousands of kids a year migrate to the US alone. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Monday arrested a suspect they say beat a 72-year-old man with a crowbar during a carjacking. Police say Daniel Dubois, 33, was arrested for the incident. According to police, the incident happened on the 5000 block of Kesling Street in Clairemont Mesa East around 9:47 a.m. Monday. Police say the 72-year-old drove up to his home only to find a man trying to break into his garage with a crowbar. RELATED: Robbers beat, rob 87-year-old Clairemont man during home invasion, police sayWhen the man tried to confront the suspect, police say the suspect attacked the 72-year-old with the crowbar before driving away with his Toyota Sienna. Police say the victim suffered major head injuries in the attack. The incident happened less than a week after an 87-year-old man was beaten by three men who broke into his Clairemont home. The victim in that attack says he was working on a ceiling fan with the door open when the suspects stormed in. 974

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police responded Monday after a vehicle crashed into a Chick-fil-A in Mira Mesa.The crash happened on the 10700 block of Camino Ruiz near Mira Mesa Community Park. Authorities say no one was injured.Due to the crash, the inside of the restaurant was closed for the day as a structural engineer inspected the damage. Authorities haven't said what caused the crash.  407
