SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For more than three hours, two women were trapped inside a downtown San Diego elevator.Fire crews were called to the Copley Symphony Hall at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after the elevator stopped as it took the women to the 34th floor.A Battalion Chief said the women felt a jolt and the elevator's lights flicker before it came to a stop.Rescuers were able to reach the women at about 11 p.m., more than three hours later. Until then, the women Facetimed a friend to stay calm, but a friend was worried they would run out of air or suffer from heat related injuries."Once I learned that they pried the doors open because it was so hot in there, what else could I do but just wait?" Kalani Creutzberg said. "It turned into a waiting game. And I'm just very very fortunate that there's a happy ending to this."Both women were taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Four rescued sea lion pups and a northern fur seal were released back into the ocean after rehabilitating at SeaWorld.The fur seal was rescued on Mission Beach on Dec. 30, 2019, and the four sea lion pups came into SeaWorld's care over the past two months. All the animals were malnourished and dehydrated, animal care experts said.During their rehabilitation, the animals doubled in weight and were given a clean bill of health by SeaWorld veterinarians. The animals' care givers also made sure the animals could demonstrate they were able to fend for themselves before they were returned to the sea.RELATED: SeaWorld sees high number of sea lion rescuesSeaWorld released the five animals about five miles west of Scripps Pier near La Jolla.Last month, the park released another four sea lions who were under their care back into the ocean.Since the start of 2020, SeaWorld says it has rescued nearly 20 sea lions and seals.SeaWorld told 10News in January that rescuers have seen an unusually large number — about three times the normal amount — of sea lion rescues this winter."The winter storms may be pushing schools of fish out further than seal lion pups can get to. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Fire crews continued mopping up what was left of the Willow Fire in Rancho San Diego Thursday, as they remain on high alert during this Red Flag Warning.One home was destroyed in the brush fire, while six others were damaged when the flames, pushed by wind quickly moved up a hillside to Willow Glen Drive Wednesday.The fire prompted evacuations. Neighbors told ABC 10News they were scrambling to get out in the middle of the night, unsure of what to grab."I happened to be on scene first with our fire chief and it was about five acres when I first got here and quickly grew, and was in the backyards of some of these homes in 5 to 10 minutes," said Andy Lawler, San Miguel Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief.Crews were able to quickly gain control of the flames, making airdrops when safe, and saving homes — despite the wind working against them.Over in San Marcos, the Sycamore Fire grew to three acres Thursday afternoon but firefighters were ready to attack it from all angles.Fire departments across San Diego County have upped their staffing and remain on high alert for the next few days."We have dedicated crews on these brush rigs so they have a quicker response throughout the city of San Diego," San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief R.J. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy just received a shipment of test strip kits that can detect signs of COVID-19 in the blood."I usually compare it to the blood glucose machine," said Ahmed Eldahmy, an advanced practice pharmacist who owns Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy's two locations in La Jolla and Barrio Logan. "Hopefully in the future this point-of-care testing will be available in every doctor's office, clinic, pharmacy."The kits are allowed by the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) as of March 31, 2020. Although he could not yet tell us the name of the company creating the kits, Eldahmy showed them to us and explained how they work to detect if signs of COVID-19 are present in the blood.RELATED: San Diego company gets FDA approval for 30-minute COVID-19 test"These are basically the antibodies that our test is trying to detect," Eldahmy explained while holding the test during a Skype interview. "We take a drop of blood and we put it in this spot at the bottom of the test. This is how we can figure out if the blood sample has the antibody component or not."He said it only takes moments to receive results."You leave it for about 5 to 10 minutes and it will tell you if it's positive or negative," he explained. "We’d rather do it at our location in order to give patients a little bit of guidance or direction.
