A man used electronic purchase alerts from his bank on a credit card he never received, to track down an alleged crook within hours. In the early morning hours of June 21, Josh Blair noticed an alert on his Apple watch confirming a purchase he made at a nearby gas station. But Blair told KSBY he didn't spend at the gas station and, in fact, Blair said he never even received the new American Express card in the mail the purchase was made on.He decided to find out who was using his new credit card around Santa Barbara.Surveillance footage from Blair's apartment complex shows a man unlock the mailbox and withdraw the envelope containing Blair's credit card. After speaking with officials at the post office, Blair said he learned the key to the boxes was lost and the lock had not yet been replaced.Throughout the morning, a series of charges hit Blair's account, all within miles of his home. So after filing a police report, he decided to track the crook himself."I talked to a friend earlier and he said 'OK, be careful.' And I said 'I guarantee I catch him within 24 hours,'" Blair recounted. "It was actually two hours from that time, I remember. I didn't spend much time thinking about what would happen."Throughout the afternoon, Blair raced from business to business as charges appeared on his card, each time, just missing the thief. Then, Blair got a charge alert from the newly opened hotel and restaurant, so he rushed over and spoke to the bartender."He was like 'yea, I'm sure that guy was just here, he just left the bar. I believe he's staying here, let me go check,'" Blair recalled. "He did that then came back and said the guy just ran out in the parking lot. He told me where, so I ran after him and so did the bartender, he helped me out. That's where we caught up with him and basically apprehended him."Blair said he and the bartender held the man until police arrived.Police arrested the man and Blair said police told him there is an arrest warrant for the suspect in nearby Los Angeles County. This story originally reported by Aja Goare on KSBY.co

A lost Purple Heart award returned home on Wednesday. Tucson Police say one of their officers recovered a Purple Heart award from a local pawn store several months ago. But with the help of Purple Heart Reunited, they were able to track down the owner of the award and his family. The award belongs to Colonel Leon Elie Lyon. TPD held a ceremony today to return the Purple Heart to the family. Officer Jim Caccavale from TPD presented the Purple Heart to the recipient's grandson, Glen Lyon. There was also a representative from Purple Hearts Reunited. Lyon entered active duty on May 8, 1917 during World War I as an Engineer Officer. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in science in 1894. After one month serving in WWI, he was promoted to Major and 13 days after that, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. During his service in France, Lyon was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He survived the war and was honorably discharged on Oct. 15th, 1919. He entered service again less than a year later and served until the early 1940's, making the rank of Colonel in 1942.Colonel Lyon married Emily Cornelia Knapp Lyon in 1907. She died young in 1938. The couple had one child, Oliver Day Lyon. Oliver served as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and saw service in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Colonel Leon E. Lyon passed away on Dec. 9, 1943. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  1452

A handful of hospice care facilities planned special Veterans Day ceremonies for men and women in their care who may be celebrating the holiday for the final time.ActivCare 4S Ranch and The Patrician in University City gave out certificates and pins to the veterans living there, while also reading poems and singing songs to honor their service and sacrifice."It's awesome, this is such a wonderful place," says Sandy Lucia. Her father, Joe, is 92 years old and served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He also suffers from dementia."Please, tell the people of America, support these kids," he said after the ceremony. "I was a young kid and they supported me during World War II.""To see these men, who can barely walk, stand up and salute for the National Anthem, that's inspiring," says Joe's other daughter, Tina. The ceremonies also had a veteran play Taps and the anthem of all four branches of service. The vets and their families sang patriotic songs, clapped and cheered as each veteran had his name called out.Organizers say it's about adding another joyful memory to their lives, instead of lamenting what they've lost."You could be down, or they could be sad, but they're happy," says Sandy. "Every day they're happy."  1260

A federal appeals court has ordered a judge to dismiss the government's case against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, marking an abrupt end to a years-long legal fight. The New York Times and CNN confirmed the ruling Wednesday morning.Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in 2017 about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak as President Donald Trump prepared to take office after winning the 2016 election. He attempted to withdraw his guilty plea earlier this year, and in May, the Justice Department dropped all charges against him.Upon the Justice Department's decision, the judge in the case, Judge Emmet Sullivan, chose not to dismiss the case immediately. Instead, he sought counsel from the court of appeals. On Wednesday, a panel of three judges ruled that Sullivan did not have adequate reason to question the Justice Department's decision. 899
