By law, the new flag must include the phrase, “In God We Trust,” and could not include any depictions of the Confederate battle flag.The designs were narrowed to five based on a public online vote and feedback. Then a commission narrowed it down to a final option.That option, including a magnolia, the state flower, and red, blue and yellow bands, was on the ballot for voters to approve. 766

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that former national security adviser John Bolton can move forward in publishing his tell-all book.The Trump administration had tried to block the release because of concerns that classified information could be exposed.The decision from U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth is a victory for Bolton in a court case that involved core First Amendment and national security concerns.The ruling means a broader election-year readership and distribution for a memoir that paints an unflattering portrait of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy decision-making during the turbulent year-and-a-half that Bolton spent in the White House.Bolton wrote in his book, “The Room Where It Happened,” that Trump pleaded with China’s president during a 2019 summit to help his reelection prospects by purchasing more American farm products.Bolton writes that he is “hard-pressed to identify any significant Trump decision during my tenure that wasn’t driven by re-election calculations.” And he says Trump “remained stunningly uninformed on how to run the White House, let alone the huge federal government.”Bolton also alleges Trump told China's leader he was right to build detention camps to house hundreds of thousands of ethnic minorities. VISTA (CNS) - A man was shot in the knee by someone in a passing car while walking in a Vista neighborhood, authorities said Saturday.The 38-year-old victim said he was walking at about midnight Friday in the 1100 block of North Santa Fe Avenue and looked down to retrieve an item from a bag, according to Sgt. Adrian Moses of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.As he looked down, he heard a loud bang and fell to the ground with a gunshot wound to his knee, Moses said.A witness heard the gunshot and saw a white Nissan Sentra driven by a woman with a male passenger leave the area on North Santa Fe Avenue, the sergeant said.The victim was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Moses said.There was no surveillance video immediately available and detectives from the Vista sheriff's station were investigating the shooting. 903

President Donald Trump has been using the Rose Garden a lot more lately for statements and news conferences in the age of coronavirus. The first lady says the renovation will make the garden more accessible to people with disabilities, and make improvements for audiovisual and broadcasting needs. It will also provide improve drainage and conditions for the plants and flowers. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's Department is asking for help locating a missing man in the North County.Deonicio Sebastian, 67, was last seen Monday at his home on W. Indian Rock Rd. in Vista. SDSO says Sebastian left his home on foot sometime Monday, taking his wallet but leaving his cellphone.Sebastian's family has not had any contact with him since.He's described as a Hispanic man, about 5-foot 4-inches tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. He has a receding hairline and dark brown complexion. His family also says he cannot read or write.Sebastian walks with a limp and requires medication every six hours for health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma. He also has a pacemaker.SDSO said Sebastian commonly walks, or rides the bus or train to various places to run errands, buy food, and go to medical appointments. He has also been known to walk from his home to Arango Green Growers at 2266 Bautista Ave. to work.Anyone with information on Sebastian's whereabouts or who sees him is asked to call SDSO at 858-565-5200. 1072
