Total investment in housing reconstruction in the regions would reach 9.6 billion yuan within three years.

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- China's work safety authorities will investigate and crack down on manufacturers operating illegally in the coming three months, the Work Safety Committee Office under the State Council, China's Cabinet, said Wednesday.Accidents in manufacturing plants have dropped this year, but illegal operations still pose a grave threat to workplace safety, accounting for about 55 percent of the accidents above "relatively major" level, said a statement from the office.An accident above "relatively major" level referred to a case in which three or more deaths are involved, ten or more are seriously injured or an economic loss above 10 million yuan (1.48 million U.S. dollars) is caused.The crackdown beginning from Aug. 1 will focus sectors including mines, transportation, construction sites, manufacturers of dangerous chemicals, fireworks plants and smelting sector, said the statement.Illegal operations mainly refer to manufacturers that run without permits or run with insufficient or overdue permits and against safety production laws and codes.

BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Floods in China have killed 377 people this year, as of Friday, and left 142 others missing, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Friday in a statement on its website.Further, flooding in 2010 has affected 64.57 million people in China's 22 provinces, municipalities and regions, as well as inundating about 4 million hectares of crops, the statement said.A total of 4.35 million people have been evacuated due to the flood waters, which destroyed 368,000 homes and caused economic losses reaching 75.6 billion yuan (11.13 billion U.S. dollars), according to the statement.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited flood-hit Fuzhou City in the eastern province of Jiangxi Thursday to inspect the fight against flooding and review disaster relief efforts. ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the massive mudslide in northwest China's Gansu Province has risen to 1,144, with 600 still missing as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the provincial department of civil affairs said late Thursday.The toll rose from 1,117 on Wednesday.Overnight downpours triggered new floods and mudslides to the mudslide-devastated town of Zhouqu in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, leaving three people missing.Floods also have left eight people dead and eight others missing in two counties in Gannan's neighboring city of Longnan on Thursday.
