SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A towering palm tree and the tree trimmer strapped to it came toppling down inside the lobby area at a University City-area hotel Thursday. The tree was being cut down at Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego-La Jolla, 4550 La Jolla Village Drive, when it struck a person shortly before 11 a.m., according to police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Countywide influenza cases hit a season high last week, and three more residents died due to flu complications, county health officials announced Wednesday.The county's Health and Human Services Agency confirmed a total of 616 flu cases last week, beating last week's season-high of 545 cases. The county has confirmed 6,094 flu cases so far this season, compared to 18,137 a year ago.The county's flu death toll now sits at 45 after two men, ages 44 and 33, and a 101-year-old woman died due to flu complications. "They may sometimes even want to arrange a meeting in the parking lot of a government building or station in an effort to appear legitimate."No employees of the regional law enforcement agency -- or of any other county body -- contact members of the public by telephone to discuss such matters, Collier noted."Nor would any employees ever try to arrange a meeting to allow (a) payment to be made," the lieutenant said.
