SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - A Solana Beach cafe is rebounding after a theft over the summer, new coronavirus restrictions and wintry weather.Back in August, seven of Homestead Cafe and Market's tables and chairs were stolen. Police found the culprit and got back most of their outdoor dining furniture.The entire time, the community has wrapped their arms around the mom and pop shop."People are still coming by wanting to bring stuff asking what we need," co-owner of the restaurant Marie Brawn said, thankfully."They wanted to make sure that we knew that they still want a place like this to be around after this whole mess," she said alluding to the constantly changing coronavirus guidelines for restaurants.She said many small businesses like them in the area have been shutting down."It's a bit of a roller coaster, it's been very humbling," co-owner Jamie Brawn said.The couple was ahead of the curve when the county announced San Diego was in the purple most restrictive tier this week. They already had all their dining outside.When they made that move, they were ahead of the forecast, thinking to add a waterproof custom made patio cover and heat lamps."Through the generosity of our neighbors, we were actually able to do it and get ready for winter coming," Marie said.She said a couple of loyal customers even came and sat under their new patio in the rain last weekend.Inside their cafe has been redesigned into an organic market, filled with produce, specialty cheeses, Italian sauces, beer, wine, breakfast items. They also have items for those with dietary restrictions and gifts for the holiday season.The market helps them with the overhead, keeping the business afloat.On top of it all, they're balancing distance learning with their two boys and charity work, feeding families in need in North County. "Food insecurity even before the pandemic was a huge thing on our minds and something that with the pandemic we want to keep going," Jamie said.They've donated 28,000 meals since April and hope to fund-raise through the end of the year to supply more families more food as the holidays grow closer. 2132

Starbucks has apologized after a viral video appeared to show two men being arrested while waiting to meet a friend."We apologize to the two individuals and our customers and are disappointed this led to an arrest. We take these matters seriously and clearly have more work to do when it comes to how we handle incidents in our stores. SHERMAN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KGTV) - A storage facility for homeless people to keep their belongings is at capacity, leading some people to call for expansion.The facility is in Sherman Heights, near 20th Street and Commercial. It opened in June of 2018 with room for 500 bins.It was full by Halloween.Now there is a 200 person waiting list. The city initially wanted to put 1000 storage bins in the warehouse, but pushback from neighbors led to a compromise of just 500.Neighbors worried that the facility would be a magnet for homeless people, drawing them to the area.Six months later, people who spoke to 10News say the opposite has happened. They still see homeless people in the area, but not any more than before the facility opened.They also say the amount of clutter on the streets and sidewalks has decreased dramatically.Crime has also gone down in the area. According to the crimemapping.com website, there were 188 crimes reported within 1500 feet of the facility in August of 2018. In December, that number had dropped to 73 (see chart above).Part of that is from extra police patrol. A recent police department report says that SDPD is spending nearly million on overtime to add patrols in the neighborhood of the facility.City officials told the San Diego Union Tribune they have no plans to expand the facility. St. Louis Zoo officials are trying to solve the mystery of how a 62-year-old ball python laid seven eggs without being around a male python for at least two decades. An expert at the zoo says it’s unusual but not rare for ball pythons to reproduce asexually. Pythons also sometimes store sperm for delayed fertilization. The zoo say the birth is also unusual because ball pythons stop laying eggs long before they reach their 60s. The python laid the eggs in July. Three of the eggs remain in an incubator, two were used for genetic sampling and snakes in the other two eggs did not survive. 599
