BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese Internet giants -- Tencent and Qihoo 360, apologized to Internet users after being ordered to stop their spat and officials vowed to investigate the dispute to determine whether actions by either company had broken the law.Both of the companies posted an apology letter on the company websites Sunday night.Qihoo 360 said the companies' software had resumed operation and the two sides would stop mutual accusations.This was after China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Sunday ordered the two companies to publicly apologize within five working days.The business war between the two Internet giants had triggered a public outcry.Tencent, China's largest Internet company, said on Nov. 3 that it would shut down the QQ instant-messaging service on computers installed with security software made by Qihoo 360 following a dispute between the companies.Tencent's move marked an escalation in its dispute with Qihoo 360 that began more than one month ago. The two sides have accused the other of improper business practices.On Sept. 27, Qihoo 360 accused QQ of invading the privacy of its users through scanning, monitoring and loading information with QQ doctor, a security software developed by Tencent.Following this, Qihoo 360 released a safety software called "Koukou Guard" on Oct. 29, claiming it could speed up QQ and offer more privacy to its users. However, Tencent responded by warning its users that the "Koukou Guard" caused QQ to malfunction.Tencent has 600 million registered QQ users, while Qihoo 360, China's largest free anti-virus software provider, has 300 million clients.The unfair competition between the companies, especially the move to unilaterally shut the instant-messaging service, had affected users and caused "bad social consequences", the MIIT statement said.Further, the ministry announced it would take effective measures to ensure the fair, just and orderly competition within the Internet market to protect the interests of Internet users.An on-line survey conducted by Sina.com showed about 80 percent of Internet users regarded the two giants' actions to be selfish and had harmed the interests of their clients.

BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) on Friday moved to overhaul the supervision over country's dairy products in a bid to ensure food safety before the major Chinese festivals.Local food and drug administrations have been ordered to increase supervision over the trade and consumption of diary products and ensure that dairy products are not mixed with non-edible substances or food additives,read a notice posted on the SFDA's website.The SFDA asked restaurants to keep dairy product suppliers' contact information as well as valid documents which could help authorities identify the quality, specifications and expiration date of dairy products.Year-end is always a peak season for the Chinese to dine out, either with families or colleagues. The Spring Festival, or the Chinese lunar new year and the most important festival for the Chinese, falls on February 3.China's dairy industry was marred by a scandal in 2008, in which at least six infants died and almost 300,000 became ill across the country after consuming dairy products tainted with the industrial chemical melamine.To restore consumer confidence, the Chinese government launched a nationwide safety overhaul of dairy products in November 2008.

SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to deepen economic and trade cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties with the United States in a "constructive manner", a senior official from China's Ministry of Commerce said here Thursday.At a press conference held Thursday evening, Yu Jianhua, director general of the International Trade and Economic Affairs Department of Ministry of Commerce, said China does not want to get into confrontation with the United States in trade and exchange rate issues, though its second round of quantitative easing will have great impact on China and other emerging economies."On the contrary, we are willing to deepen economic and trade cooperation with the United States in a constructive manner," said Yu, who is also a member of the Chinese delegation to the G20 Seoul Summit which opened Thursday evening.He said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao also proposed to deepen the bilateral economic and trade cooperation during a meeting with U.S. President Barak Obama in New York last September."Therefore, much common ground can be found in the China-U.S. cooperation. I am optimistic on the future of the two countries' relations," Yu said. Yu also stressed that China hopes to deal with the trade and currency issues through dialogue. These issues should not be politicized or internationalized, and bilateral issues should not develop to a multilateral one. Otherwise the existing issues would become more complicated, he said.On Thursday afternoon, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with U.S. President Obama in Seoul, the host for the G20 Summit.
