SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man in the center of a viral video depicting a police arrest appeared in San Diego County Superior Court Tuesday. But he was there for another case, dating back to 2017.20-year-old Trenelle Cannon spoke at one of his many court appearances scheduled for this week. This one was regarding a robbery from 2017, where prosecutors said Cannon snatched a ,000 gold chain off a person's neck."The defendant was seen running to a vehicle, and that vehicle took off. There was a police hot stop on it. The defendant ran from the passenger and left the necklace inside," Deputy District Attorney, George Modlin said. But Cannon made headlines because of a controversial video, released Wednesday. The 12-second video was recorded from the back of a sedan that Cannon was riding with four others. Police said despite a demand to stop, the driver sped off onto Interstate 5. Near the freeway exit, police conducted a traffic stop. That's where the video begins. Cannon's girlfriend Shakira Smith, who took the video, said the man on the other end of the officers' punches, is Cannon. But San Diego Police said the 12-second video does not show the whole story, of how the 20-year-old had multiple outstanding warrants. According to San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, officers were surveilling Cannon before the incident. When he took off, Chief Nislet said officers chased him. When they got close, he noted Cannon resisted, which resulted in the necessary force, which he called "physical strikes and distraction strikes.""Cannon refused to cooperate and struggled to keep his hands in front of his body." Chief Nisleit said. Cannon's loved ones said that was police brutality."He is quickly pulled out of the vehicle by his shirt, head first, throwing him down to the ground aggressively," girlfriend Shakira Smith said. In his short adult life, Cannon has been the defendant for at least three other criminal cases: involving a stolen cell phone, a gold chain, firearms possession, and identity theft. While he awaits the arraignments for his new charges, he requested a change in his living situation."I just wanted to request that I be taken out of the psych ward or whatever," Cannon said. "But they put me in like, a psych ward facility on the 6th floor, and I would request that I go to mainline. I've seen the psychiatrist and she said there is nothing wrong with me at all, and she doesn't understand why I'm up there."Cannon's arraignment for the charges from the video will be tomorrow at 1:30 pm. 2534

San Diego (KGTV)- Heart- pounding moments for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Powerful gusts tossed riders on the Balloon Safari from side to side. Riders on the balloon held on tight during the gusty landing. “There were some points where the basket was almost tipped completely sideways,” says Jordan Lapidot, who was visiting the park with her family yesterday afternoon. “I have this image in my mind of this guy, and he’s grabbing the outside of the cage as they get just thrown.”The San Diego Zoo Safari Park says the balloon has a long cable in the middle of the cage that safely brings it down from the sky. That cable never broke during the windy ride. “They were trying to get it down as quickly as possible,” says Lapidot. The Safari Park tells 10News if the wind reads over 29 miles per hour they will shut the ride down. They sent us a statement about the incident, saying in part: “As the sudden storm arrived and winds picked up, some operations at the Park, like Balloon Safari and Flightline were closed to public use.”No one was hurt while on the ride. 1090

The 92-page summary says PG&E's corporate culture elevated profits over safety and encouraged shortcuts in delivering highly dangerous power. Company CEO Bill Johnson pleaded guilty on behalf of the nation's largest utility earlier Tuesday to 84 felony counts of involuntary manslaughter. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - As protesters gather across the country to spread the message that black lives matter and there is a problem of police brutality against black people, not everyone is ready to join in the marches, but there are other ways to help the combat racism. “To make change, to build a movement, it takes all sorts of action. Everyone doesn’t need to go in the streets,” said Dayo Gore, UCSD Associate Professor in Ethnic Studies and Critical Gender Studies. While many have said they want change both verbally and through social media, she said people of color want that support to be taken to the next level. “This is not enough, your apology is not enough, feeling sorry is not enough, feeling my pain is not enough, I need some actual real change,” she said. To get that real change, people can use their voting powers to elect officials who will be an advocate, which is a point President Obama made in a publication addressing how people can make a difference in combating racism. He also noted that when making demands for officials, be specific with what you’re asking so it’s harder to ignore. Gore emphasized that point, citing specific examples of room for change in the San Diego community. She suggested a community review board that’s independent of the police department to review activity and oversee actions taken by police. She also said funding within the police department could be reevaluated. “Funding other things that will make communities more viable and able to survive, instead of simply policing communities,” said Gore. She also said in order to help get rid of racism, it’s important to first acknowledge there is an issue and educate yourself. “It starts with understanding what the problem is, and then figuring out where you best can raise your voice,” she said. She said another active step to take is speaking up among peers if someone says something racist, even if it’s uncomfortable. “When you’re hanging out with friends, do you say something when people say things racist or make assumptions based off the color of their skin?” she questioned. Gore also suggested people find groups in the community to both follow and support financially.
