(KGTV) -- The Vista Unified School District confirmed that a student at one of its high schools tested positive for COVID-19.According to the district, a positive case in a student was reported at Mission Vista High School on Tuesday, resulting in about 130 students in the four classes the positive student attended to be placed into a 14-day quarantine. Those students will pivot to virtual learning.Staff members involved in these classes or who may have come into contact with the student were also quarantined, the district said."The student did not come into close contact with every student; however, since this is our first incident, we are proceeding with an abundance of caution," a district release stated.District officials said schools will reopen at normal capacity on Friday.The positive test comes just two days after Vista Unified reopened its schools for in-person instruction.Part of the reopening plan, known as “Vista Classic,” includes attempts to have social distancing as much as possible. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— The new virtual school year comes with challenges for many students, but one nonprofit is teaming up with a Virginia Beach business to help give kids the space they need to succeed.“When children have a place to sit down and learn, they’re going to do much better,” said George Melnyk Jr., President of Premier Millwork and Lumber Company.Melnyk’s wife, Kim, is a Virginia Beach School Board member. They decided to take on a project to make desks for CHIP, a child readiness non-profit advocacy program.“They’re going primarily to low-income homes, kids that just need a desk,” said Trish O’Brien, President of CHIP of South Hampton Roads.Machines and manpower are churning out the pieces that will become desks for hundreds of CHIP families.There’s no hardware, no tools, just four pieces that easily interlock in under a minute to create a temporary space that a child can call their own at no cost to mom and dad.“At the end of the day, they can disassemble them, slide them under the couch, stick them in the closet, put them away for the weekend, and then the next day, put them back together and be ready to work,” said Melnyk.Each desk cost .50 to build thanks to employees who are donating their time to keep labor costs at zero.Last Saturday, the crew built 110 desks. WASHINGTON — House Democrats will investigate whether Postmaster General Louis DeJoy encouraged employees at his business to contribute to Republican candidates and then reimbursed them in the guise of bonuses, a violation of campaign finance laws. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, House Oversight Committee chair, announced the investigation Tuesday. The Washington Post reports that five people who worked for DeJoy’s former business were urged to write checks and attend fundraisers at his North Carolina mansion. Two former employees said DeJoy would give bigger bonuses to reimburse them.
