A lot of things have changed at Disneyland since 1985.For starters, Captain Jack Sparrow is now the star of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and you can buy and drink alcohol inside Oga's Cantina. But one thing hasn't changed: Canadian woman Tamia Richardson's love for Disney. In August 2019, the park honored visitor Richardson's free entry pass from 1985. Although decades have passed since Richardson received the pass, she was allowed in without so much as a surcharge.Richardson, who lives in the Edmonton suburb of Sherwood Park, Alberta, was planning a girls' trip to Disneyland with her mother, aunt, and daughters Mia and Maren when she found the coupon. The mom of two first visited Disneyland in 1985 when she was 14 years old. That was also the year that Disneyland, located in Anaheim, California, celebrated its 30th birthday. In 1985, admission tickets cost .50. These days, the most basic single day admission ticket costs ."As part of the 30th Anniversary, Disneyland featured the Gift Giver Extraordinaire, which gave out prizes to every 30th guest," a Disney spokesperson explains to CNN Travel. "Tamia won a pass to use for a return visit. She kept the pass for 30 years and used it today for admission.""Disney's big in our family," says Kent Richardson, Tamia's husband, who has been keeping the home fires warm back in Canada. "They're having the time of their lives."Still, not every old pass or ticket that you find buried in the attic will necessarily be honored at the House of Mouse.Passes that are confirmed not to be copies and that do not have expiration dates will be accepted for entrance into Disney parks, while "A B C D E" tickets (used for admission to individual rides or attractions) are not good for general admittance. In the past, some Disney staffers have reportedly used a "Book of Life" if they needed to verify a particular pass. 1891

1) McConnell starts by making major concessions Tuesday's trial to remove President Donald Trump from office started with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell making two major concessions to rules that he proposed for the trial: One was to allow each side three days – McConnell previously announced that the two legal teams would only get two days each – to present their opening arguments; the other concession was to change how the Senate would accept evidence. Democrats argued that giving the legal teams only two days, which would have amounted to 12 hours each day, would have forced hearings to go well past midnight. CNN reported that several Republican senators had concerns about condensing a total of 48 hours of testimony into four days. 2) Democratic amendmentsMost of Tuesday’s lengthy trial involved entertaining amendments from Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to the rules of the trial proposed by McConnell. Many of the amendments involved issuing subpoenas to compel witnesses and testimony from the Trump administration. Every amendment proposed by Schumer failed by a party-line vote, except for one (Republican Sen. Susan Collins voted against killing a procedural proposal).3) Roberts admonishes staffsAt exactly 1 a.m., Chief Justice John Roberts, who is presiding over the Senate trial, admonished members of both the House’s prosecution team and Trump’s legal defense. "I think it is appropriate at this point for me to admonish both the House managers and the president’s counsel in equal terms to remember they are addressing the world’s greatest deliberative body,” Roberts told the teams. Roberts’ comments came after House impeachment manager Adam Schiff, D-Calif., finished his argument on an amendment request to subpoena testimony from ex-National Security Adviser John Bolton. Moments later, the amendment was killed by a 53-47 vote. 4) Rules are now in placeAfter 13 hours of debate, Republicans united behind McConnell to approve the rules. Meanwhile, Schumer's caucus remained united by voting down the rules. The rules now allow for House Democrats to kick off their opening arguments for Trump's removal on Wednesday.5) Pulling an all-nighterThe trial itself got underway at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and went well into the wee hours. It was not until 1:50 a.m. before Roberts adjourned the hearing. In the middle of the evening, McConnell requested that Schumer bundle all of his remaining amendments into one motion. But Schumer opted to continue putting forward multiple amendments to be voted on separately. The 100 senators, members of the House prosecution, Trump’s legal team and Roberts will return to Senate chambers to continue the trial at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday. 2719

Scientists are working to eliminate a type of heart disease in dogs using gene therapy. They're zoning in on a heart condition called mitral valve disease that’s common in 6% of dogs. Scientists are using Cavalier King Charles spaniels for the research. They tend to develop it at a younger age. Scientists at Tufts University have already tested gene therapy in mice. A virus is injected into them to deliver DNA to cells which causes them to create a protein. What it essentially does is stops the heart valve from getting thicker, stopping the valve from leaking. Researchers are now moving on to testing this in dogs. But they think the treatment could go beyond just canines. “Many of the dog diseases are naturally occurring and really great models for human disease,” says Dr. Vicky Yang, a veterinary cardiologist and research assistant professor at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. “And I can see this, if it becomes successful in dogs, potentially going into thinking about treatment for humans for mitral valve disease.”The biotech company behind the treatment agrees. It says it could also expand beyond heart problems. “I think a larger question, though, is if we are able to prove this thesis of treating aging, making the animal generally healthier, could also treat heart failure, what other diseases could we treat in dogs?” says Daniel Oliver, the CEO of Rejuvenate Bio. “And could we progress this treatment onto past dogs and other animals and possibly humans?” The gene therapy would only be used for dogs just starting to experience heart problems.Researchers still need to make sure the gene therapy is safe for all breeds before they make it available to the public. 1730

A Dallas jury on Tuesday found former police officer Amber Guyger guilty of murder for fatally shooting her unarmed neighbor, Botham Jean, in his own apartment, which she said she mistook as hers. The jury deliberated less than 24 hours. The verdict followed a trial that has captured national attention and sparked outrage.Judge Tammy Kemp asked Guyger and her lawyers to stand as she delivered the verdict."We the jury unanimously find the defendant, Amber Guyger, guilty of murder as charged in the indictment," Kemp read, as a shriek and hand clap could be heard."No outbursts," Kemp said before announcing a break until 2 p.m.Jean's mother immediately threw both arms in the air upon hearing the verdict, then quickly retracted them. Another woman who started to shout in praise was chastised by a court officer. Members of Jean's family sobbed. There were hugs among family members and prosecutors.Guyger, her head down, wept at the defense table. Her mother also broke down in tears in the courtroom. When the courtroom doors open, people in the hallway applauded and cheered. Some cried on hallway benches and shouts of "Guilty! Guilty" and "Black lives matter" could be heard.Guyger, who is white, testified that after working long hours on September 6, 2018, she returned to her Dallas apartment complex and approached what she thought was her apartment. She noticed the door was partially open, and pulled out her service weapon and shot a figure inside in the dark. It turned out she was at the apartment directly above hers -- which belonged to the 1572
