As Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell awaits trial, newly released documents provide insight into the charges she's facing.A deposition from 2016 has been made public that alleges Maxwell was a recruiter for Epstein's underage sex ring.Testimony from Virginia Giuffre, one of Maxwell's alleged victims, implicates Prince Andrew and former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson. Both the prince and Richardson have denied the allegations against them.Giuffre also reports seeing former President Bill Clinton on Epstein's private island. When she asked Epstein about why Clinton was there, she said Epstein told her that Clinton owed him a favor.Clinton has previously denied ever going to Epstein's island.Giuffre also said one of the men involved in Epstein's sex ring was a "large hotel chain owner."The in the court filings, Maxwell and her attorney portray Giuffre as unreliable, pointing to errors in certain information she provided. 950

An Uber driver in Arizona said he pulled up to give a ride Easter morning and ended up with an AR-15 assault rifle in his face. Edward Martinez said two men called for a ride and while he waited at the curb, a third man came out of the house with no shirt and a gun. "He points it at me and says, 'call 9-1-1,"' said Martinez. Not knowing what was happening, Martinez started dialing and talking to the 9-1-1 dispatcher, and the guy with the gun went back inside. In the meantime, he said the two riders got in his car and told him not to worry about the guy with the gun. About that time, the man with the gun returned. "That's when he put a round in the chamber," said Martinez. "The [passenger] door was open... and then he had the weapon, it was about [half way] in the car, and I just took off."Martinez drove to a Quick Trip. He said his passengers tossed something out the window on the way and disappeared when he parked to wait for El Mirage police. An El Mirage officer ended up arresting the armed man, 25-year-old Nicholas Brasseur. Police searched his home and wrote in the police report that they found drugs and 25 AR-15 assault rifles.  "My profession is manufacturing AR-15s," Brasseur told the court at his initial appearance. The judge informed him that he would not be allowed to continue working with weapons or be in possession of any weapons while awaiting a resolution to the charges, which include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possessing or using a weapon during a drug offense.       Martinez said he reported the incident to Uber but has not received a followup call. "I'm missing work. Where's any concern? What can we do to help you? Do you need to see a counselor? Or any of that kind of stuff," said Martinez. Meanwhile, he says he doesn't know if he'll ever drive again. "Not today, not the next day," said Martinez. "Why would I want to put my life [at risk] and lose my life. I can't."An Uber spokesperson told Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix they've banned all the people involved from the Uber app and will co-operate with police.  The spokesperson said they're glad Martinez is OK and plan to follow up with him soon.  2268

Americans counting on emergency coronavirus aid from Washington may have to wait until fall. Negotiations over a new coronavirus aid package have all but ended. The White House and Congress are far apart on the size, scope and approach on relief for households, schools and a national strategy to contain the virus. President Donald Trump’s top negotiator, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, tried to revive stalled talks Wednesday. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer dismissed what they called an “overture,” saying the Trump administration is still refusing to meet them halfway. Trump said Democrats are “holding the American people hostage.”While the White House said they believe a compromise can be made on some issues, the two sides remain far apart on funding state and local governments. Many states and municipalities are struggling due to decreased revenues and increased costs amid the pandemic. There is also disagreement among the parties, including Senate Republicans, on unemployment supplements as unemployment figures remain over 10%. From April into July, unemployed workers received an additional weekly 0 unemployment supplement on top of standard unemployment benefits. But many Republicans grumbled that the supplement gave incentive for workers to stay home amid the pandemic. On Saturday, Trump announced the signing of an executive order, which in part would extend weekly unemployment supplements, but the order raised many questions. The supplement would provide 0 a week for unemployed Americans through the end of the year and would call on states to chip in 25%, but many cash-strapped states might not be able to provide the additional funds. There are also questions on how Trump can fund the order without Congressional approval. Although there is grumbling over fears employees won't return to work, if an employer calls an employee back to work, they're no longer eligible for unemployment benefits. 1987

Ananya Vinay, the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion, has had quite a year.It started with confetti cannons on stage after she spelled "marocain" correctly. Then she made the rounds: talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and other media appearances. She rode in a limo to the Golden State Warriors' final basketball game of last season, and got to see the trophy presentation when her team won the championship."It was really exciting," she said. She also toured the Google campus, got a rally at her school and had a day named in her honor by the governor of California. It was all a big surprise, she said. And she's picked up other hobbies, too: she made it to the National Science Bowl, the state science fair and competed in Mathcounts. She also wants to write more and join the forensics team. And she's started a website and tutors some spellers.A lot of it comes from her Bee experience."It really gives you a lot of confidence," Ananya said. "It gives you a lot of knowledge about the world."Ananya carried the trophy in to the opening ceremony Monday night and kicked off the Bee."I'm really glad to be back; I have a lot of friends here," she said. "I'm hoping for the best for every competitor." 1216

Apparently, the mysterious monolith in a remote area of southeast Utah wasn't that hard to find for at least one person and his crew.Dave Sparks, star of the Discovery Channel show "Diesel Brothers," was able to find the tall and shiny object earlier this week, days after officials in Utah announced its discovery.Sparks posted videos on his Instagram account from the undisclosed location.Sparks says the monolith is an "insanely creative piece of metal art." He also described how the monolith was most likely constructed in an Instagram video. 555
