President Donald Trump is urging the Republican-run Senate to consider “without delay” his upcoming nomination to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg just six weeks before the election. Trump is making his view known in a tweet Saturday, the day after Ginsburg died. He says, “We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us." He says the “most important” decision "has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices. We have this obligation, without delay!”Ginsburg died on Friday at the age of 87 after a battle with cancer. The court, which has seen its share of 5-4 decisions in recent years, could become a reliably conservative court for years to come if Trump is able to push through a nominee leading up to the election.Currently the court holds five Republican-appointed justices and three Democratic-appointed justice, but Chief Justice John Roberts, appointed by George W. Bush, has sometimes been a swing vote, siding with the liberals.But one person who is opposing a last-minute appointment to the bench was apparently Ginsburg herself.Dictating a statement to family that was released to NPR, Ginsburg said, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”In 2016, conservative Justice Antonin Scalia's death came nine months before the presidential election, and became a focal point of that year's election. PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -- A man who bit a teen girl at a Green Day concert in Portland pleaded no contest to harassment and was sentenced to one month in jail.Joel Brian Dauncey, 34, of Vancouver, British Columbia, entered his no contest plea in court Monday. An additional charge of third-degree sex abuse was dismissed as part of his plea agreement.Dauncey was arrested last month following the Green Day concert at the Moda Center.Court documents state the 14-year-old victim was with her mother, who was on her left, with Dauncey on her right.The girl said she was dancing when Dauncey leaned over and bit her on her right breast, according to a probable cause affidavit.The affidavit states an employee working at the concert witnessed the bite and said Dauncey had been cut off from buying alcohol due to his behavior.Along with one month in jail, Dauncey was sentenced to 11 months probation and ordered to have no future contact with the victim.The-CNN-Wire 970

POMONA (CNS) - A 38-year-old man was charged today with the murder of a 9-year-old girl whose body was found partially inside a large duffel bag near an equestrian trail in the Hacienda Heights area.Emiel Lamar Hunt -- who is believed to be the boyfriend of Trinity Love Jones' mother -- was arrested early Saturday in connection with the girl's death. Sheriff's officials said Hunt was found sleeping in his vehicle in a lot near San Diego International Airport. The arrest was assisted by the Port of San Diego Harbor Police. Hunt appeared briefly in a Pomona courtroom Tuesday, but his arraignment was delayed until April 16. He remains jailed in lieu of million bail.The criminal complaint alleges that Hunt has a 2005 conviction for child abuse from San Diego County. He could face up to 50 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Sheriff's officials said earlier that two "persons of interest'' had been detained for questioning in the case, but only Hunt was charged Tuesday.Sheriff's officials said they were not disclosing any additional information about the second person of interest, pending further investigation. The victim's relatives told reporters the girl's mother was the second person beingquestioned, but sheriff's officials would not confirm those reports, and there is no record of her being arrested.County workers clearing some brush in the area found the girl's body found about 10 a.m. March 5.
