SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- UC San Diego has some of the best graduate programs and schools in the U.S., according to a new report by U.S. News and World Report. Engineering, medicine and management all took top spots on the list. According to the report, UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering was ranked 11th overall in the U.S. and 6th in the nation among public engineering schools. The school’s bioengineering program placed 5th in the nation. It also placed 22nd among public universities. “Graduate programs at UC San Diego help transform our diverse global society through education, innovation and public service,” said UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “We offer students an education that enriches and inspires them. Doctoral programs in the sciences include earth science, ranked 15th, biological sciences, ranked 16th, computer science, 16th, physics, 17th, math, 19th and chemistry, 20th. The university also did well when it comes to social sciences. Political science ranked 9th with economics placing 12th, psychology in 13th and sociology in 36th. Fine arts also ranked 13th on the list with English placing 42nd and history taking the 41st spot. 1925

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A splash of color brings life back to Bay Park Elementary. Over the weekend, parents and volunteers joined together to give the school a facelift. The beautification project now has kids excited to come to school. “They were just blown away,” says Emily Auer. “Their face just lit up. They actually touched the walls.”Bay Park Elementary is approaching it’s the 80th anniversary. The school’s beautification team brought together almost 80 volunteers. The project started Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. Volunteers painted the walls and wooden backpack holders. Parents tell 10News one family donated a bunch of small desks with chairs that now sit in the halls. Behr gave the paint for the project. “Such a wonderful group of kids, so positive,” says parent Erica Krystek. “We really wanted that positivity reflected in the hallways.”The Bay Park Elementary Beautification Team plans to do more upgrades in the future. They hope to paint and add new carpet to the school’s auditorium. 1022

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tuesday arrested a woman they say was trying to smuggle more than 230 pounds of drugs into the U.S. with her five children in a van.Officers say the incident happened on April 9 just after noon at the Otay Mesa port of entry.During an inspection of the family’s Honda Odyssey, authorities found anomalies in the spare tire well, quarter panels, doors and gas tank.RELATED: Teens targeted to smuggle Fentanyl across US-MexicoAfter inspecting the vehicle, officers found 206 packages containing methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.The estimated street value of the drugs is more than million, according to CBP.“CBP has seen many forms of drug smuggling through the years,” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego. “The hardest ones are when adults include their children in attempted smuggling schemes.”RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug, weapons chargesThe woman was arrested and taken to the Los Colinas Women’s detention center.
