A new forecast from NOAA now says there is a likelihood of a below-normal Atlantic hurricane season, citing a developing El Nino, lower-than-normal sea surface temperatures, stronger wind shear and drier air.The update is a change from the forecast in late May that called for a normal to slightly above normal season. An average season in the Atlantic sees 12 named storms, six hurricanes, and three major hurricanes. 425

A Republican Representative from Alabama told reporters this week he plans to challenge the official Electoral College votes when Congress certifies President-elect Joe Biden’s election win on January 6.Representative Mo Brooks says he will challenge the results if another senator joined him in the effort. At least one lawmakers in each chamber of Congress needs to object on January 6 when the Electoral College vote-counting takes place in order for the counting to stop and the challenges to be considered, according to Politico.“In my judgment, if only lawful votes by eligible American citizens were cast, Donald Trump won the Electoral College by a significant margin, and Congress’s certification should reflect that,” Brooks said. “This election was stolen by the socialists engaging in extraordinary voter fraud and election theft measures.”Brooks has said he has had some “indirect communication” with senators about joining forces, but he would not elaborate, according to several media outlets.President Donald Trump appeared to approve of Rep. Brooks’ decision, tweeting Thursday morning, “Thank you to Representative Mo Brooks!” 1152

A recent study appears to show a person’s blood type might indicate whether they will develop severe respiratory failure if they contract COVID-19.The study sequenced genomes of 1,600 COVID-19 patients in Spain and Italy who had been hospitalized with severe respiratory failure and compared the results to DNA sequences of 2,205 healthy subjects. Results appear to show that people with type A blood had a higher chance of developing severe respiratory failure as compared to people with O blood type. The study claims there may be a “protective effect” for blood group O. However this study has not been peer-reviewed yet and the exact kind or extent of “protective effect” is not known. In early June, the site 23andme.com released results from information gathered from 750,000 participants who identified they had COVID-19. The genealogy company said their research suggests a similar effect in people with O blood type. “Individuals with O blood type are between 9-18% percent less likely than individuals with other blood types to have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the data,” a company statement said. They said while there was a significant difference in those with O blood type, there “appeared to be little differences in susceptibility among the other blood types.”However, some are questioning this idea that people with type O blood are protected. Laura Cooling is the director of immunohematology at the University of Michigan. She noted that the idea that having type O blood is protective doesn’t match with current COVID-19 infection rates.Type O blood is usually more prevalent among African Americans, according to the American Red Cross, yet new information from the CDC and states indicate African Americans have experienced disproportionately high COVID-19 infection rates. Cooling says there are many factors to consider.“It’s what your blood type is, relative to the other person who exposed you, relative to all the other genetic and acquired health conditions you have,” she told Chemical and Engineering News on the matter. 2069

A short stint as a car salesman taught me that dealers are pros who negotiate all day for a living — and they always have the home field advantage.Later, while buying dozens of test vehicles for an automotive website, I was on the other side of negotiations, and experienced the tricks dealers use to pressure buyers.I’ve found that simple, nonconfrontational negotiating tactics can help even car shoppers who hate to haggle still get the best deal possible. These strategies, combined with online tools, can keep car shopping from turning into a battle with the dealer. Here are five ways to level the playing field:1. Know your numbers 650

A suspect is dead and a deputy was shot and wounded on Saturday following a car chase that led through the streets of Columbus, Ohio. A Franklin County Sheriff's Office spokesperson told WCMH-TV that the pursuit started several miles away when the deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle for a traffic stop. The chase came to an end after a few minutes when the suspect crashed his pickup truck into a pole. A witness captured video of the shooting and posted it on social media. In the video, you could hear the deputy telling the suspect to get down. Seconds later, a number of gunshots could be heard.  630
