SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) - New recommendations aim to help the thousands of teenagers living with depression who are suffering in silence. The American Academy of Pediatrics released new guidelines for primary care doctors to screen young people. They say 2 out of 3 depressed teens are not being identified by their doctors and not getting the care they need. One survey doctors can give to patients is just two questions, another is nine. The purpose is not to establish a final diagnosis but rather screen for depression in a "first step" approach. San Diego Pediatrician Jaime Friedman believes it's a positive step to help young people and that it will be fairly easy to incorporate into visits. She will soon be using tablets on which parents and teens can answer questions related to their visit, they'll also be able to conduct the depression screening on them. Doctors are also being advised to talk to families about safety plans, removing lethal medications or guns from the home to prevent suicide. The AAP recommends young people get screened at least once a year starting at age 12.  1144

(KGTV) - The warmest ocean temperatures on record are making things interesting for San Diego’s fishermen.Local fisherman say they are seeing more game fish closer to the coast than even before.“2018 is a season that has been off the charts,” said Frank Ursitti, the owner of H & M Landing.Scientists recorded ocean temperatures at more than 80 degrees last week.Ursitti says his tours are lining in more dorado, yellowtail, yellowfin and bluefin this time of year than usual.  “Often time times anglers or recreational fisherman will have to venture 8 to 15 days at seas for certain kinds of fish,” said Ursitti, “but now some of anglers are venturing just 12 hours offshore for the fish of a lifetime.”Fisherman Magnum Scuro says they have all noticed the warmer waters, but he is curious for what may be it consequences next year.“There are some negative things that can happen with the warm water - it can kill the kelp,” said Scuro, “ (the) hot water is going to expose a lot of areas where there hasn’t been kelp so we can get to it, but there’s going to be be a lot of kelp that’s going to be gone.” 1151

SAN DIEGO, California —An 81-year-old woman was arrested at the Tecate port of entry Wednesday, carrying 92 pounds of heroin valued at more than 0,000. “The cartels will try and manipulate anyone to smuggle their narcotics through the ports of entry,” said Pete Flores, the San Diego Customs and Border Protection Director of Field Operations. “CBP officers are aware of the many tactics used by the cartels and remain ever vigilant to stop anyone attempting to smuggle narcotics.”CBP officers working at the Tecate border crossing encountered a 81-year-old woman, United States citizen when she entered the U.S. driving a 2011 Chrysler 200 at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A CBP K-9 team was screening vehicles as they waited in line for inspection when the detector dog alerted to the driver side rocker panel.CBP officers referred the vehicle for a more in-depth inspection and discovered and extracted a total of 34 wrapped packages of heroin from the vehicle’s rocker panels. Many people also wore collars, like RBG. A memorial on the steps of the Superior Court grew, filled with signs, flowers and candles.“It’s shaken some folks and we just want to come together and share our strength because ultimately we believe there is strength in unity,” said Lesa Thode, secretary for Women’s March San Diego.Thode said they wanted to give people a place to grieve and remember RBG together. She added that there will be more memorials in the near future that will be more accommodating for the Jewish community, who are in the middle of Rosh Hashanah.
