MADRID, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Friday for an official visit aimed at further bolstering bilateral political ties and cultural exchanges between China and Spain.     Upon his arrival, Wen said in a written statement that China and Spain enjoy a time-honored friendship, and bilateral cooperation in various fields has been expanding steadily. Wen Jiabao arrived Friday in the Spanish capital for an official visit.With mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples constantly growing, the foundation of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership has been consolidated continuously, said the Chinese premier.     Wen said he was pleased with the smooth growth of the bilateral ties between the two nations and had full confidence in the prospect of China-Spain relations.     China highly values its relations with Spain and recognizes its important role in European and international affairs, he said.     Wen added that he hoped to exchange views with the Spanish leaders on bilateral ties and global issues of common concerns.     China is ready to work with Spain to boost the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership to a new high, Wen said.     Spain is the fourth leg of Wen's week-long European tour, which began on Tuesday and has already taken him to Switzerland, Germany and the European Union headquarters in Brussels.     Wen also attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum during his stay in Switzerland.     On Saturday, Wen will fly to Britain, the last leg of his trip, which is characterized by the Chinese Foreign Ministry as "a journey of confidence."

BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Li Changchun has underscored the importance of enhanced efforts to boost public confidence in a bid to promote stable and fairly rapid economic development. Li Changchun (C), member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, addresses a national conference on publicity in Beijing, capital of Beijing, Jan. 4, 2009.    Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the call at a national conference on publicity which was held here from Jan. 4-5.     He called for efforts to create an active and healthy environment to maintain social stability.     He also urged the building of a "socialist core value system" that may consolidate the ideological basis for people from all ethnic groups.     Li called for a reformative, scientific and innovative spirit in publicity and cultural work.

BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping urged officials with the Communist Party of China (CPC) to play more important roles when dealing with the international financial crisis.     Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark during a conference Tuesday.     Xi asked officials to make public promises that they would better implement their duties to Party members and non-party people.     The official also urged Party officials to carry out the central government's policies designed to keep steady economic growth and improve the people's lives using practical measures.

ATHENS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- China attaches great attention to the cross-border cooperation and is willing to work together with the international communities to strengthen its effort in the fight against corruption, Teng Jiuming, head of the Chinese delegation, said at the 13th International Anti-Corruption Conference here on Sunday.     Teng, senior ombudsman from the Ministry of Supervision of China, said that corruption is a common challenge faced by all countries around the world.     "For years we have been carrying out international exchange and cooperation in the anti-corruption field based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, of respect for differences, and of emphasis on effectiveness."     Teng pointed out that the Chinese government is ready to enhance its anti-corruption efforts together with other countries, regions and international organizations, so as to create a just and harmonious world.     The Chinese delegation also introduced China's anti-corruption strategies and practices in recent years at the conference.     According to the requirement of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention was established under the Central Chinese Government, which is the first corruption prevention organ at the national level since the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Teng said on 13th, May 2008, the Chinese government published the Five-year Work Plan (2008-2012 ) on building and Completing the System for Punishing and Preventing Corruption.     China has also tabled the Anti-Money Laundering Law and the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Disclosure of Government Information in recent years.     Business bribery is a common challenge faced by the international community. The Chinese government has initiated the anti-business bribery battle and notable progresses have been achieved, said Teng.     The 13th International Anti-corruption Conference, which attracted some 1,200 officials, scholars from all over the world to share their views in the fight against corruption, was held in Athens from October 30 to November 2, 2008.
