A New York judge dismissed count 6 of Harvey Weinstein's criminal indictment Thursday, which was a criminal sexual act in the first degree.The count stems from charges brought forth against the disgraced movie producer in May by Manhattan District Attorney's Office.A source familiar with the investigation told CNN at the time that the criminal sex act charge was from a case involving aspiring actress Lucia Evans, who alleged Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in his Tribeca office in 2004. She first spoke out about the alleged incident to Ronan Farrow in the New Yorker last fall.Carrie Goldberg, an attorney for Evans, spoke to reporters outside the court in lower Manhattan following the dismissal, and said the prosecution "jumped ship" and "ultimately she was caught between the middle of a feud between the NYPD and the DA's office."Goldberg added that despite District Attorney Cy Vance not opposing a motion to dismiss the charges against Weinstein, her client's claims remain and this "does speak to a system desperate in need of reform.""People always ask why don't sexual assault survivors come forward, this is why. A new study about video gamers pretty much shatters the stereotype many people have about them.Researchers at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia conducted what they say is the first study on body mass index from a worldwide sample of e-sports players. What they found surprised even them.“When we went into the study, we were kind of expecting that the gamers would have a much higher BMI than the general population, but what we found was the complete opposite. We found that players tended to have up to 21% more likelihood of being a normal weight,” said lead researcher Michael Trotter.The study included hundreds of participants from 65 countries. It showed gamers were between 9% and 21% more likely to be a healthy weight. Players also drank less and smoked less than the general population.Trotter started the university's e-sports program before he started studying for his PhD. He says he was surprised that serious players focused on their health almost as much as their playing. He says players requested a personal trainer, a dietician, and a sports psychologist.The study also found the healthier players were the better players.“We found that the players who were in the top 10% of all players and we measured up to 2.5 thousand players, it wasn't a small study. We found the top 10% of all players were exercising significantly more than their lower ranked counterparts,” said Trotter.Trotter says the growth of e-sports is huge and future programs will need to look at this study and realize they must focus on the health of players.He also says future research will need to be done on the overall health of e-sports players, such as muscle mass and bone density. 1706

A study conducted by Stanford researchers found nearly 10% of those tested exhibited coronavirus antibodies. The study was published in the Lancet earlier this week.The study involved dialysis patients and randomly tested over 28,000 samples. The samples were taken in July as part of the patients’ treatment.The data found stark differences based on region. The northeast around 27% of patients with coronavirus antibodies, compared to 3.5% in the west.The study’s authors stressed that the study oversampled minorities. Minorities, the study found, were considerably more likely to have coronavirus antibodies than the rest of the population.“Uncertainty exists as to whether seroprevalence estimates in the dialysis population can be extrapolated to the US population more broadly,” the study reads.The study indicated that herd immunity is still far off, as estimates say at a minimum, 50% of the US population would need to be infected to reach that level. 969

A new invasive tick is spreading through the United States, which is the first time in 50 years a new species has come to the country.The Asian long-horned tick has spread throughout the Eastern Seaboard already, causing mild concern from public health experts, according to The New York Times.The new arrival has yet to be found carrying any human diseases here. Domestic American ticks carry pathogens and transmit them into people rather often."In Asia, however, the species carries a virus that kills 15 percent of its victims," according to the Times.The new ticks are considered a threat to livestock.According to the Times, the long-horned ticks “can multiply rapidly and suck so much blood from a young animal that it dies. The ticks bloat up like fat raisins until their tiny legs are barely able to support them.”So far, the tick has been found in seven states. Experts say the tick is hard to identify."It is an aggressive biter and frequently builds intense infestations on animals causing great stress … and blood loss," according to a statement sent to The Charlotte Observer from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture“Even experts have difficulty distinguishing among tick species, so it is important to take precautions to protect pets, livestock and family members from becoming a host for ticks of any kind,” state veterinarian David Wolfgang told the Pocono Record. “Scientists don’t yet know how this species will adapt to the North American climate and animal hosts, but we know it survived New Jersey’s winter and has infested sheep and cattle in this region.”So far, the tick has been found in Arkansas, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia and West Virginia.The tick can survive throughout the year, according to the York Daily Record.“We know it can survive very harsh winters. A rare white tiger has mauled to death its keeper in a zoo in southern Japan, zoo official Takuro Nakazako told CNN.Police are investigating the incident after 40-year old Akira Furusho was found unconscious and covered in blood in the tiger enclosure at the Hirakawa Zoo, Kagoshima on Monday.The tiger named "Riku," one of four at the zoo, was tranquilized after the attack but was not put down because Furusho's family did not want it killed.White tigers are a genetic variant of the more common orange-and-black Bengal tiger but they have black stripes and white fur.The zoo was open as normal on Tuesday but the white tiger observation zone was restricted "as police continued to investigate the case," AFP reported.Riku, who was born at the zoo, is about 1.8 meters in length and weigh 374 pounds, AFP said. 820
