SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – SeaWorld San Diego will partially reopen to the public later this week.Starting Friday, Aug. 28, the park will open its doors to guests for what it is calling Zoo Days: Bayside BBQ & Brews.In a press release, the company said, “With enhanced health and safety measures, guests can safely roam the park’s expansive grounds, enjoy amazing animal exhibits and presentations, and savor a limited-time food and beverage experience with all new BBQ and beer-infused menus throughout the park, paired with San Diego’s best craft brews.”In addition to the food and drink offerings, guests will be able to enjoy the park’s outdoor animal exhibits and shows such as the Dolphin, Sea Lion and Orca EncounterThe special event will run on weekends from Aug. 28-Sept. 27. The event will also take place on Labor Day weekend.A limited number of guests will be allowed in the park on each day, with park hours from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.Park officials suggest guests purchase tickets in advance:“All guests, including Fun Card holders and Pass Members must purchase a date-specific ticket online to this limited time experience. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies.The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise.The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting.One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. It’s now time to act and bring it to a close.”The next step will be to send the proposal to the full City Council for review. 1350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified is fast-tracking several security-related upgrades on several schools.The first upgrade started this week at Miramar Ranch Elementary school, where a new, taller perimeter fence was installed.The district made the decision last week to prioritize roughly -million worth of projects.  They will be paid for by a voter-approved bond measure. The plans were already on the district's to-do list, but they now moved up the schedule.A district spokeswoman says it is in response to the climate plaguing classrooms across America, where school safety and security are front and center.  Campus security has been under heavy scrutiny following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.“Of course we are worried about school security in the wake of all the shootings,” Diane Hunter, a Miramar Ranch Elementary parent said,  “It’s a naughty problem because we want to balance logistics and ease of access for parents and volunteers, but we also want our kids to be safe.  So I’m glad that the school is taking a look at it and making improvements."The list of projects includes adding and upgrading things like fences, door locks and gate, visitor access control, site radios and security cameras.A timeline for the projects in the individual schools was not readily available.  1380

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students and staff at Coleman University are rushing to gather documents and information to move forward with their degrees and careers before the university shuts down August 5.Each person who walks through the reflective double doors with their own story, "I was going to graduate in 10 weeks," Ryan O'Shaughnessy said."I would've liked this to be my final job, this is an amazing place," Graphic Designer Andrea O'Briant said.
