SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students were outraged with the football home opener tailgate at SDCCU Stadium Saturday.This comes after an email was sent last October by the university declaring new rules for tailgates. It reads "students and recognized student organizations with more than 25 people in attendance are required to register for tailgating.""People are bummed but I haven’t heard that many people upset about it," SDSU Freshman Caitlin said.The new form requires organizations to acknowledge kegs, glassware, and underage drinking is prohibited. They also check a box acknowledging failure to follow any of the guidelines could result in citation or arrest as well as loss of tailgating privileges and/or game tickets."I heard it was a little too crazy so they had to dial it back and now they’re making people register," Caitlin said."Last year there were thousands out here, this year there’s hundreds maybe," SDSU Senior Brady McIntyre said in frustration.Multiple students came up to 10News angry with the restrictions and how they stifle greek life.10News spoke with a representative with Student Life at SDSU who said the registration process was to bring more organization and give groups a safer place to hang out. "Honestly the university put a bunch of restrictions on us which is super respectable, there are students who need to chill out out here, but it’s not as fun as it used to be," SDSU Senior Jack Brubacker said.Last year's home opener tailgate a raucous party, where students rocked a truck while dancing with red solo cups in hand. Spectators saw throngs of people having a great time.This year, it looked calmer with many small groups standing around talking, eating pizza and drinking from those same red solo cups. 1777

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several University Heights residents are searching for a parrot they say flew out of their home and hasn’t been seen since. According to the owners, the 18-year-old parrot named Lily flew out of their home on Rhode Island Street on January 7. According to a Lily’s owners, the bird can fly but isn’t used to it. The parrot has a blue chest and head and the rest of her body is green. The search is becoming more and more dire, according to Lily’s owners. "It really feels very impossible,” said Mary Beth Cruden. On top of Lily not having food and water, nights have been cold across the county. "Really devastated about it. I loved the bird, the bird loved me,” William Smith told 10News. Lily’s empty cage now sits at the end of the driveway. Bird experts say if she smells something familiar she may come home. The family is hoping someone spots their beloved pet. "I would expect her to come walking up that street on her little two feet, she's practically a human being,” Smith said. Smith says if you spot Lily on the ground, hold your fingers close to her chest and she should hop on. Then hold on tight. The pair is offering a 0 reward to anyone who returns Lily. 1203

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seaport Village is seeing a bounce back in foot traffic now that the most stringent of coronavirus-related restrictions have eased.Port of San Diego officials say in the last month, 39,661 people came to the coastal shopping mall. That's more than double the 16,606 people that came through the center in the month after the shutdown order took effect March 13. The port took over management of Seaport Village about two years ago and invested more than million to spruce it up, create more in-person events, and add new tenants. The idea was to reverse the decline in the village, which had seen numerous closures. Ultimately, the port plans to redevelop the property with a hotel, office space, an aquarium, and a spire. "We're really just doing our best to set it up for the future, for us this is the perfect opportunity with all of the interest that we've gotten," said Lucy Contreras, a program manager in the Port's real estate division.In the last year, the Port has signed leases with Geppetto's, Spill the Beans Coffee, Mr. Moto Pizza House, Sam the Cooking Guy for a restaurant, and a Mike Hess Brewing tasting room combined with City Tacos. The duo already has a location in Imperial Beach and will take over a former restaurant spot on the center's western edge overlooking the bay. "Ever since then, and that's been like three and a half years, you tell people we're doing beer and tacos on the beach, beer and tacos on the water, nobody thinks that's a bad idea," Hess said. On Friday, the port signed a lease with the Malibu Farm restaurant for a Seaport Village location.The mall, which canceled many in-person events during the shutdown, started once again offering live music two weeks ago. It also has balcony concerts every Thursday and Saturday. While the foot traffic has increased, it is still down from pre-COVID-19 levels. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county.The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said.One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software.He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. He used his pup to demonstrate social distancing, "He’s the star of the show... animals bring that lovability."While he is optimistic, he hopes to be a leader for change, to protect his peers and those more vulnerable, like his grandmothers.The winners were announced August 10th and received Apple AirPods, according to Bonifacio.SDSU has 29 confirmed coronavirus cases since March, encompassing students, staff and visitors. 1840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University is celebrating yet another MVP athlete on one of sports' biggest stages.Wednesday, former SDSU baseball ace Stephen Strasburg was award the 2019 World Series MVP award after the Washington Nationals won Game 7 against the Houston Astros.As special an honor as that is, the award also means SDSU has two former players that have been named MVP in their respective sports — in the same season. In June, former Aztec star and then-Toronto Raptor Kawhi Leonard was named the NBA Finals MVP. The pair of postseason MVP awards in the same season are a first for the university. 625
