Facebook and Instagram were both having issues as users reported problems with the social media sites early Tuesday morning. According to downdetector.com,  the East coast is reporting the most problems with Facebook in the United States, but issues are being reported globally as well. This is the second time this month users from all over have reported Facebook being down.Instagram users were also reporting problems, according to downdetector.com.Some of the problems with Facebook included not being able post status updates, the page not loading at all or loading very slow, not being able to send messages over Facebook's separate Messenger app and some saying they received an error message indicating the site was doing maintenance, among other issues.Instagram users reported the app not loading and showing an error message.Some people were able to access Facebook or Instagram, or both, later in the morning and without problems. FBI Director Chris Wray told senators Wednesday that the FBI's investigation into Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was "limited in scope" and thus "consistent with the standard process."Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a house party when the two were in high school. Both Ford and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee last month, prompting the weeklong FBI investigation and hundreds to protest on Capitol Hill. The Senate reviewed the FBI's findings after they were sent it last Thursday and confirmed Kavanaugh by a 50-48 vote Saturday afternoon. Kavanaugh has denied all allegations against him.During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, California Democrat Sen. Kamala Harris asked Wray if the FBI was given full discretion over the investigation or whether it was limited by directions from the White House."Unlike most investigations like the sort that you and I and (Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Holmes, a Silicon Valley businesswoman whose biotech company Theranos was once valued at billion, will reportedly attempt to claim “mental disease” in her criminal trial, according to multiple reports.Court filings released this week indicate Holmes’ lawyers want to introduce evidence “relating to a mental disease or defect or any other mental condition of the defendant bearing on the issue of guilt.” However, details of what exactly her mental state is, or what the lawyers intend to argue are redacted.Holmes founded Theranos as a Stanford drop-out at age 19. She, and her former romantic partner and Theranos president Sunny Balwani, face fraud charges for claiming their company’s machines could perform several diagnostic tests with just a single drop of blood.The prosecution says the pair knew all along the technology wasn’t capable of doing the tests as promised, and allegedly defrauded investors, doctors and patients. They were charged in 2018 and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.Holmes’ attorneys plan to introduce testimony from Mindy Mechanic, according to the filing, a psychology professor at California State University Fullerton.The university’s website lists Mechanic’s focus as “the mental health consequences of violence, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression as well as other important physical and social health outcomes” and that she also provides expert testimony in “complex legal cases involving interpersonal violence.”The judge is allowing the prosecution to conduct their own examination of Holmes, to gather any needed evidence.Holmes’ case is expected to begin in March 2021. 1666

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — Encinitas officials announced a "one-of-a-kind" crosswalk has been placed across Coast Highway 101 in downtown.Officials say the artistic crosswalk featuring surfboard shapes and waves spans across the highway at G Street and took two years of coordination between city staff and City Council to put together. The city says the crosswalk will improve walkability and bring more public art to the area.Artist Steffen Vala, whose work has appeared around the globe and been featured by Apple, Marvel, and other big brands, was commissioned for the crosswalk."The iconography of surfboard shapes is a nod to each surfer's 'magic board,' unique to them like their fingerprint. Juxtaposing this individualism is a unifying tidal wave laid out like the ocean's fingerprint that connects all the surfboards. This symbolizes the unifying, collective, 'party wave' we are all riding and our love in protecting the environment while celebrating our differences," the city said in a release.The city says the crosswalk is the longest decorative crosswalk of its kind and first one across a historic highway. 1132
