SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have released pictures of a man accused of shooting and killing a 27-year-old man in the Midway District in late February.Police say Ernesto Castallenos Martinez, 41, shot and killed Alexander Mazin in a parking lot behind the 24 Hour Fitness on the 3600 block of Midway Drive.Following the shooting, police were led to the intersection of 30th Street and Upas Street where an hours-long standoff took place.RELATED: Police identify Midway District shooting victim, suspect of North Park standoff?After SWAT teams entered an apartment in the area, they didn’t find Martinez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police say they have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting in the Midway District during a meeting set up on social media.San Diego Police arrested 18-year-old Angel Garcia of San Diego on Wednesday and charged him in the murder of Eduardo Salguero, 18, of San Diego, on Nov. 25.Police say Salguero had arranged to purchase an item through Snapchat and met for the transaction behind several businesses in the 3600 block of Midway Dr. When he arrived, two Hispanic males entered his vehicle. During the meeting, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and the transaction turned into an armed robbery.RELATED: Midway District shooting victim killed during Snapchat transaction, police sayMultiple gunshots were fired inside the vehicle before the two suspects fled. Salguero was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries.Both suspects were described the suspects as Hispanic males, between 20-30 years old, who were wearing dark clothing at the time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a 19-year-old was shot in Chicano Park Wednesday night. According to San Diego Police, the teen was walking with a group of men in the park just before 7 p.m. when an argument broke out and an unknown suspect pulled out a handgun. Several shots were fired at the 19-year-old, who was hit twice by the gunfire, police say. The victim ran away from the scene and was taken to the hospital by an acquaintance. He sustained non-life threatening injuries, police say. Both the victim and acquaintance were unable to provide any details about the shooting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents who want options for their child’s education can explore the possibilities this fall through the San Diego Unified School District’s School Choice program. School Choice gives students the chance to enroll in magnet programs or schools outside their neighborhood boundaries. Parents are responsible for transportation if their children attend a school through School Choice outside their community. Parents can apply for the program online or in person. In addition to specialty programs available to students through the choice application window, San Diego Unified also has free and fee-based, full and half-day enrollment seats available in the district’s Pre-K and Headstart programs. SDUSD’s Parent Welcome Center offers help for families with preschool through high school enrollment options. It provides parents with free one-on-one enrollment assistance year-round and is located at San Diego Unified District headquarters. The center is open to families by appointment or on a walk-in basis. The enrollment window opened October 7 and closes November 20. Each year, more than 10,000 area students apply for the choice program to attend one of the more than 180 schools in San Diego Unified. Last year, approximately 75 percent of all students were seated at one of their three choices of schools. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - National Voter Registration Day is a reminder to sign up to vote in the next election, a deadline many Americans miss. Voters must be registered at least 15 days before an election. If they fail to meet this requirement, they can conditionally register and vote provisionally, according to the San Diego Registrar of Voters. Voting materials, including sample ballots, are mailed starting 29 days before an election. If you changed your name, moved, or want to switch political parties, you must re-register to vote with a new application. In order to register to vote in California, you must be a U.S. citizen, a state resident, at least 18 years old before the next election, not in prison or on parole for a felony, and not declared mentally incompetent by the court.
