CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities have filed criminal charges against a mother accused of driving around barricades during a hurricane, resulting in the drowning death of her 1-year-old son.Union County Sheriff’s detectives say that Dazia Ideah Lee, 20, of Charlotte, drove around highway barricades and kept going east until her vehicle encountered rushing water flowing across the road during Hurricane Florence.Her car left the roadway and came to a rest among a group of trees where she managed to free herself and her 1-year-old son Kaiden Lee-Welch. However, she lost her grip on Kaiden in the rushing water.“The tragic death of this child and the circumstances surrounding this case are heartbreaking. We continue to pray for all those suffering as a result of this child’s death," Sheriff Eddie Cathey stated. "However, after a very thorough investigation and taking all facts into consideration and applying the law, we feel that these charges are appropriate.”Lee faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and a misdemeanor charge of driving on a closed/unopened highway in connection with the death of her son.She is due in court on November 20, 2018. 1192

With less than 70 days to go until the election, undecided voters are poised to play a deciding role in whether President Donald Trump or Joe Biden is the president of the United States come the end of January. GEOGRAPHY MATTERSWhile undecided voters matter everywhere, they really matter in crucial counties in swing states. Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, is one example. In 2008 and 2012, this county, which encompasses towns like Wilkes-Barre, voted for President Barack Obama. In 2016, the county voted for Trump. Luzerne is one of three counties in Pennsylvania to have flipped like that. Political scientists refer to counties like these as "pivot counties." (KGTV) — Authorities have identified the woman found stabbed to death on a North County trail.San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the woman as 68-year-old Lisa Thorborg of Carlsbad. Thorborg was found fatally stabbed on the Hosp Grove trail on Monday, Carlsbad Police say.Police believe the stabbing occurred between about 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., before her body was found by a passerby who called police around 11:30 a.m.RELATED: Carlsbad police: Woman found dead on hiking trail was stabbed to deathA tipster led investigators to identify a suspect as white or Hispanic, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a husky build and a tan complexion with dark hair. CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Even though his truck does not have sirens and his uniform does not offer added fire protection, Anthony Gaskins is considered a hero in the Hallsley neighborhood in Chesterfield County, Virginia.Gaskins is a driver for UPS and during the pandemic, his daily deliveries have been life-saving, both literally and figuratively, to the Midlothian neighbors. "Through COVID, Anthony has continued working, delivering packages at our doors, record numbers of them, over 180 times to date," Hallsley neighbor Patty Friedman wrote in an email. "I wanted to thank him personally for how much he helped me feel welcome when I moved in during a pandemic. It was terribly lonely and he was always the highlight of my day.
