A vehicle was intentionally driven Friday into three students outside a high school near the southern French city of Toulouse, injuring them, the country's interior ministry said.A driver was arrested after the collision, and the Toulouse prosecutor has been called to investigate, the ministry said.The collision happened outside Saint Exupéry high school, according to CNN affiliate BFM TV.Initial information about the conditions of the injured -- identified by authorities only as Chinese students -- conflicted. The interior ministry said the students were lightly injured; BFM reported that two were in serious condition.Toulouse Prosecutor Pierre-Yves Couilleau said around noon ET that two students remained hospitalized and one had left the hospital.The vehicle accelerated as the students crossed a road, the interior ministry said.The driver has a history of mental illness, the interior ministry said in a statement. A panel of three federal judges in North Carolina ruled Monday the state's congressional map is an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander that favors Republicans, and said it may require districts to be redrawn before the November elections.Republicans hold 10 of the state's 13 seats in the House of Representatives, and a redrawn map could put more seats in play for Democrats -- potentially affecting control of the House.The judges acknowledged primary elections have already occurred, but said they were reluctant to let voting take place in districts that courts twice found had been unconstitutionally drawn.The same decision was reached by the court in January, but the Supreme Court declined in June to hear the case and it was sent back for reconsideration. The Supreme Court has never ruled a partisan gerrymander to be unconstitutional, and it passed up three separate opportunities to do so in the last term.The decision Monday could result in an election-year appeal to the Supreme Court. The court is currently evenly split on ideological lines and lacks a ninth justice to tip the scale. The court also traditionally does not approve of judicial actions so close to an election that could affect the outcome. 1231

Watch streaming video in the player below:SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The journey has come to an end for hundreds of migrants seeking asylum in the U.S.A large caravan arrived in Tijuana within the last week and have waited until Sunday to cross the border into San Diego.Late Sunday afternoon, members of the caravan plan to turn themselves in to customs agents seeking asylum.Most of the roughly 400 migrants in the caravan are women and children who have been staying in shelters, seeking legal counsel before trying to cross the border.Border patrol agents released a statement Saturday saying several groups associated with the caravan have been illegally climbing a scrap metal border fence.The statement warned anyone with the caravan to “think before you act.” The Secretary of Homeland Security also said in a statement earlier this week that anyone seeking asylum “may be detained while their claims are adjudicated.”Protesters say the group is taking advantage of U.S. immigration laws. A group called San Diegans for Secure Borders plans to protest at Friendship Park.They say the migrants are unwelcome and that their claims for asylum are false. 1207

A Michigan hospital is facing a federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination by a nurse who says she was told not to care for a patient because of her race.Teoka Williams works as a Registered Nurse at Beaumont Health's campus in Dearborn. Her lawsuit alleges that while working on the unit on Oct. 2, she overheard a patient say she did not want a "Black B****" taking care of her.Williams claims she told the clinical manager about the comment and that clinical manager then talked to the patient, who told her she did not want Williams to care for her.The clinical manager then allegedly told the patient that she would "move" Williams and that the patient would not have to see her anymore.The clinical manager then told Williams she was not to go into the patient's room and if either patient in the room needed care a white nurse named Olivia was required to go into the room, according to the suitThe lawsuit alleges that there were times when the patients in the room needed care and Williams was forbidden from doing so because of her race.Williams' lawsuit contends that she told Human Resources about the incident and was told that patient requests are honored all the time and that the next time it happened, she would be taken off the assignment altogether.The lawsuit contends Beaumont violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. A massive cloud of Sahara Desert dust is blanketing the Caribbean as it heads toward the U.S. with a size and concentration that experts say hasn’t been seen in half a century. The thick dust cloud, known as the Saharan Air Layer, is making a 5,000 mile trip from the northern Africa desert to North and Central America along the east to west Trade Winds along the equator. The Saharan Air Layer is between 5,000 and 20,000 feet above the Earth's surface, and dust plumes travel over the Atlantic Ocean several times a year between spring and fall. This year's dust plume is thicker than normal, the concentration of particles in Puerto Rico are the highest in decades.
