BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A deputy head of the top academic institute of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Tuesday the institute is striving to open up to the outside world.Li Jingtian, vice president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a press conference on Tuesday, two days ahead of the 89th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.Li said many foreign political and business leaders and scholars were willing to give lectures or deliver speeches at the party school."As a think-tank, we have established cooperation with over 30 foreign universities, think-tanks and research institutes," said Li.Li said the Party School had trained 60,000 communist cadres over the past three decades.The party school provides various training classes and seminars for cadres at provincial and ministerial levels, party secretaries at the county level, young cadres and cadres of ethnic minorities, he said.

The global financial crisis has an impact that can not be neglected on the implementation of the MDGs, but the world should aware that the MDGs and dealing with the crisis are not contradictory, Wu said.He stressed it will be more significant for the international community to speed up the MDGs' implementation process while there still exists in-depth impact of the financial crisis and uncertainty of the world economy's systematic and structural risks.

BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- China strongly opposes a declaration issued by the European Union on a Chinese human rights case, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang here Sunday.Qin made the remarks in response to a question on China's attitude towards the EU declaration.The EU said in its declaration that it regrets the decision of the higher people's court of Sichuan Province to confirm the sentence of Tan Zuoren to five years in prison for "subversion of state power."It also appeals to the Chinese government to release Tan unconditionally.Tan Zuoren, a former magazine editor, was sentenced in February on the charge of inciting subversion of state power. This week, the Sichuan provincial higher people's court upheld Tan's five-year prison term.Qin said, China's justice department handled the case independently according to the Chinese law.The EU declaration has interfered in China's judicial affairs," Qin said. "China firmly opposes and is strongly dissatisfied over it."Qin hoped the EU would respect China's judicial sovereignty and safeguard the overall situation of Sino-EU relations.
