SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 634 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest number of new cases reported over one day thus far.The new cases were out of 9,224 tests reported to the county on Friday — a 7% positive result — and bring the region's COVID-19 case total to 22,489 cases.County health leaders also reported seven more deaths due to the virus on Friday. The victims died between July 7 and July 15 and include three women and four men, whose ages ranged from early 50s to mid-90s. All had existing chronic conditions. The county's death toll is now at 472 deaths.Two new community setting outbreaks were also reported, both traced to restaurants, the county says. The county does not name the businesses that community outbreaks are traced to, officials have previously said. San Diego's case rate trigger is greater than 100 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days, while the trigger for investigations is 70% or less within 24 hours of notification over seven days.The county is also still well above the state's case rate threshold of no more than 100 cases per 100,000 people, or more than 25 cases per 100,000 people and higher than 8% positivity.The new numbers come as California announces that counties that are on the state's watch list for 14 consecutive days will not be allowed to reopen for in-person school in the fall. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Renters in the city of San Diego will have one final day to apply for emergency financial assistance.The deadline to apply for the city’s one-time program, which provides up to ,000 per household, is Friday, Aug. 7.Families with past due or upcoming rent payments are eligible, and payments for those who are selected are expected to be distributed in the next few weeks.Each household has to provide documentation to prove they are not currently receiving any rental subsidies. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego police are searching for two suspects involved in a knife attack in Bay Terraces early Sunday morning that left a 30-year-old man hospitalized.The assault happened at around 4:25 a.m. in the 6900 block of Paradise Valley Road, said Ofc. Tony Martinez, San Diego Police Department The victim told police he was confronted by two men who asked him for a cigarette."An argument ensued, and during the argument, the victim was stabbed multiple times," Martinez said.Both suspects fled in a white sedan-type vehicle, according to Martinez.The victim suffered a stab wound to the neck, the left bicep and lacerations to his nose, jaw and back, Martinez said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown at this time but Martinez said he is expected to survive.The two men were described as Hispanic between 20 and 30 years old. One of the suspects stands about 6- foot, 2-inches tall weighing 180 pounds with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, a black jacket and blue jeans.The second suspect stands about 6-feet tall weighing 200 pounds with a heavy build. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is expected to consider a plan to open up county parks for worship and workouts.Supervisor Dianne Jacob is proposing the idea which is expected to be discussed by the board on Aug. 5. The proposal would make it easier for houses of worship and fitness centers, impacted by the pandemic, to utilize county parks. The proposal aims to speed up the permit process and waive fees.Public health orders have hindered the operations of many houses of worship and fitness centers after they were forced to close their indoor areas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Fire crews responded to a first-alarm brush fire in an east San Diego neighborhood Saturday.The fire ignited near the 5700 block of Bates Street around 1 p.m. in the Redwood Village neighborhood of east San Diego. Within 15 minutes, crews had stamped out the half-acre fire.No evacuations were ordered, according to SDFD.The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. 405
