SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The woman accused of killing another driver in a wrong-way crash while drunk on a San Diego freeway last year changed her plea Friday.Lauren Ashley Freeman pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury in the Feb. 26, 2018 collision that killed 35-year-old Justin Callahan.Freeman's plea dismisses a murder charge. She is scheduled to be sentenced to 11 years and 8 months in prison at a September hearing.RELATED: CHP reverses blame in fatal wrong-way crash on I-5 rampInitially, Callahan was deemed responsible for the crash. The position of his Volkswagen Jetta after the crash led CHP officers to believe he was at fault. But California Highway Patrol investigators reversed their findings after Callahan's family refuted the claim and the case was re-opened. Freeman was charged with causing the fatal crash in November.Callahan was driving to his Ocean Beach home from work in Chula Vista when the crash occurred on a transition ramp from northbound Interstate 5 and westbound I-8 just before 2 a.m.The 35-year-old died at the scene, while Freeman and a passenger in her Toyota Camry sustained major injuries. Sheriff Bill Gore said in a statement that " I am stopping the use of the carotid restraint by my deputies effective immediately.""I have and always will listen to any feedback about the public safety services we provide. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thirty roosters abandoned last month are in need of a new home.The roosters were left at an Escondido feed store on Dec. 28, 2019, with a note from the owner explaining they could no longer take care of them, the San Diego Humane Society says.SDHS says the roosters all appear to be healthy and social with each other and humans.Anyone interested in adopting the roosters can do so through SDHS' Escondido campus. Officials advise potential new owners to check with their city to make sure they are allowed to have a rooster, as some city ordinances prohibit the animals.Anyone who is unable to care for their pets are also advised to take them to a SDHS campus rather than abandoning them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This isn't the first time the idea of an aerial tram in San Diego has been floated around. But it is the first time the idea of one from the airport has been raised.A feasibility study, completed by engineering firm WSP USA, proposed a "skyway" to connect San Diego International Airport to the convention center could be built with current aerial cableway technology.The study suggests the aerial cableway "has the potential to enhance mobility within the study area." The transit system could include intermediate stations at Santa Fe Depot, Seaport Village, the Embarcadero, and in the Marina District.Riders would also be able to connect to MTS, Coaster, and Amtrak stations, the study says.The skyway would cost about 0 million to 0 million to construct and about million to million to operate every year, the study says.The study adds the skyway could make 1.1 million and 1.6 million trips a year, or about 3,600 to 4,900 trips a day. An aerial cableway could transport about 2,400 people per hour per direction, with cabins holding eight to 12 people, according to the study.In the study, the skyway begins at the Gaslamp Quarter trolley station near Harbor Dr. and 5th Ave., and roughly follow Harbor Dr., Kettner Blvd., Broadway, and Harbor Dr. again to the airport, ultimately ending at passenger terminals. IS IT POSSIBLE?While the study determined a skyway is feasible, it did not say whether it would be the best method for mobility to alleviate traffic between the airport and downtown.A system of this kind would also be a first in the U.S. New York and Oregon are both home to point-to-point aerial cableways: the Portland Aerial Tram and Roosevelt Island Tram. But a system with intermediate stops hasn't been implemented in the U.S.Large aerial systems already exist in South America, Europe, and Asia. Many of those systems make intermediate stops and help with transportation through topographically challenging areas, the study says.It's not the first time an aerial method of public transportation has been suggested in San Diego.
