SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist was killed when his car was struck by a trolley after he drove past a trolley crossing gate in the Valencia Park area, police said Tuesday.The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Merlin Drive and Imperial Avenue, east of Valencia Parkway, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 22-year-old man was driving a Toyota Prius southbound on 60th Street toward Imperial Avenue when he drove past trolley crossing arms and was struck by an eastbound trolley, Buttle said. The impact pushed the vehicle about 100 feet down the tracks.The victim, the only occupant of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - At least one person was seriously injured this morning in a crash that may have involved an alcohol-impaired driver, the California Highway Patrol said.A car reportedly rolled over and caught fire about 3:44 a.m. on southbound state Route 15 near state Route 94, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Moments later, dispatchers were told the car appeared to have exploded.The fire-damaged car was then struck by another car, according to the incident log. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Wednesday for help in identifying a man seen fleeing the scene of a deadly shooting in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.Officers responding to reports of gunfire near Colina Park Golf Course about 2:30 p.m. Friday found 26-year-old Lazaro Orozco mortally wounded in the 4000 block of 52nd Street, according to San Diego police. Medics took Orozco to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.A man believed to be the shooter was seen running out of the area to the west following the shooting, Lt. Matthew Dobbs said.The suspect was described as a roughly 5-foot-7-inch Latino in his 20s or early 30s, wearing plaid shorts, a white shirt, a blue jacket, white tennis shoes and what appeared to be a cast or bandage on his left arm.Investigators believe the deadly shooting occurred during a roadside fight between the two men. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of carrying out a series of credit union heists in San Diego County, stealing more than ,000 over a three-month span, pleaded not guilty Friday to 10 felony counts, including robbery and attempted robbery.Karl Doron, 43, was arrested Tuesday after he entered the Navy Federal Credit Union, 6755 Mira Mesa Blvd., and allegedly demanded cash from the employees, according to FBI Special Agent Davene Butler.Police officers and FBI agents had been monitoring Doron based on information they had gathered in an investigation that began in late December, when the first robbery occurred, Butler said.Upon leaving the credit union, he was taken into custody without incident and found to be carrying a loaded handgun, the agent said.RELATED: FBI searching for 'Gloved Robber' in series of credit union heistsDeputy District Attorney Andy Aguilar said Doron, whose alleged spree started three days after Christmas, used gloves, glasses, coats and other clothing to mask his identity. Gavin Newsom announced Monday the state will send .7 million to support San Diego's proposed purchase of two hotels to provide more than 330 rental housing units for San Diegans experiencing homelessness.The funds -- part of the state's Project Homekey -- will go toward the purchase of the Residence Inn Hotel Circle and Residence Inn Kearny Mesa, to be considered by the San Diego City Council in October.The purchase of the two properties would create 332 permanent supportive housing units, with 72 of the units having two bedrooms, enough to provide housing for more than 400 individuals. According to a city statement, the units were determined to require minimal work before people could move in. The Hotel Circle property was built in 2003, while the Kearny Mesa property was built in 1990 and underwent a renovation in 2013."San Diego has proven we can put state dollars to action on programs and services that reduce homelessness," said Mayor Kevin Faulconer.
