"And that if it exploded or got worse then we could give her the IP pen and then take her to the ER."Hughes-Findley's daughter wasn't seen by a doctor in person, but her issue was solved. All without him having to leave his job."Once it subsided I went back to work," Hughes-Findley said.With just a few steps, Hughes-Findley can go from work to the Kaiser Permanente Integrated Care Room that's been set up at his job. There, he can connect with a doctor by chat, phone, or even video.The doctor can help employees take their temperature and even their blood pressure. They have access to all of the patient's medical records, so they can give a complete assessment and even make follow up appointment.Dr. Pierre Onda with Kaiser Permanente helped develop the pilot program to test a new concept in health care and said he believes this is the future of health care. His team has found virtual care can often be more efficient than in person treatment."There is maybe 50 to 60 percent of the problems that people are coming in can be addressed through that venue," Dr. Onda said. "So certainly not all of the problems but a significant portion of those problems can be managed."Other factors? Cost and convenience. Americans pay more for in person visits, and Onda says making it easier to connect with you doctor, makes it easier for your doctor to provide excellent care."To me this is just a way where I can extend the care and that I already do more conveniently for my patients," Dr. Onda said. 2477

Three Denver police officers have been suspended after three separate incidents this year of arrestees being forgotten in temporary holding cells overnight. Policy requires desk officers to check on people detained in holding cells every 30 minutes and to notify a supervisor if someone has been held there for more than an hour. The holding cells are supposed to be temporary stops for arrestees before they can be transported to the city jail. Yet one woman, in custody for an unpaid traffic ticket, sat in a sparse police department holding cell for nearly 13 hours. Handcuffed to a bench, Victoria Ugalde could not reach the toilet for much of the time and had no option but to urinate on the floor.  "They forgot about me," Ugalde said. "I was looking in the camera, I was [saying] 'Can anybody help me?' And then, nobody."The desk officer who was supposed to check on Ugalde admitted he failed to notice she was there because he was wrapped up in reading a book, titled "Emotional Intelligence 2.0."He served a three-day suspension and is back on the job.The seemingly strange scenario played out twice more this year, and the police department is weighing policy changes to prevent it from happening again. "It should not have occurred," said Jess Vigil, deputy director of the Denver Department of Safety. Three people have been killed in southern France after a gunman stole a car and took hostages in a town's supermarket, in what authorities are treating as a terror attack.Police shot dead the gunman, French media reported, after a four-hour standoff Friday at the Super U supermarket in the town of Trebes.Interior Minister Gerard Collomb identified the gunman as 26-year-old Redouane Lakdim. He was known to authorities for minor crimes, including drug offenses, Collomb said.The gunman had opened fire and killed two people there, he told reporters.
