Scientists say the tsunami could have been caused by the eruption of Anak Krakatau, a volcanic island formed over years from the nearby Krakatau volcano. They also cited tidal waves caused by the full moon.The areas that were affected were South Lampung in Sumatra and the Serang and Pandeglang regions of Java, west of the capital Jakarta. The Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra connects the Java Sea to the Indian Ocean.7:05 a.m.A man who says he and his family survived the tsunami that hit the coast around Indonesia's Sunda Strait says he was taking pictures of a volcano Saturday night when he suddenly saw a big wave come toward him. "I had to run, as the wave passed the beach and landed 15-20m (meters) inland," ╪ystein Lund Andersen writes on Facebook. "Next wave entered the hotel area where i was staying and downed cars on the road behind it. Managed to evacuate with my family to higher ground trough forest paths and villages, where we are taken care of (by) the locals. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities in East Tennessee have asked the public to be on the lookout after a tiger was spotted near an industrial park.The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy spotted the tiger Wednesday night in the Forks of the River Industrial Park.The sheriff’s office says several agencies are looking for the tiger, including the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Knoxville police’s Animal Control Unit and representatives with Tiger Haven, which is located in Kingsport.Investigators say there have been no other sightings. JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Water releases to Lake Okeechobee will be adjusted beginning today, Aug. 24. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says releases will achieve a 14-day average of 2,000 cubic feet per second from Moore Haven Lock and Dam and 1,500 cubic feet per second from St. Lucie Lock and Dam. "With continued paramount focus on Herbert Hoover Dike safety throughout 2018, we need to make increased discharges to slow the still dangerous rise in lake levels," said Jacksonville District Commander, Col. Jason Kirk. "In concert with the South Florida Water Management District, we continue to maximize storage nor and south of the lake to minimize the requirement for discharges." The lake stage was 14.57 feet as of Thursday. Under these current conditions, discharges up to 4,000 cubic feet per second are allowed to be released to the Caloosahatchee and up to 1,800 cubic feet per second to the St. Lucie. Crews will use flexibility when it comes raising flows, while they still work to reduce risk to the Herbert Hoover Dike. The St. Lucie average flow will increase by 330 cubic feet per second from current releases, although runoff water from rain in the St. Lucie basin could occasionally result in flows that exceed the target amount of 1,500 cubic feet per second. Staff with the Jacksonville District will continue to monitor conditions and will make adjustments to water flows as needed.  1458

(KGTV) — An East County couple who lost their home in the Valley Fire is dreaming of a rebuild and a new, fireproof home.Earlier this month, Irving and Anita Beeman shot cellphone video of the imposing smoke plumes behind their home on West Boundary Truck Trail. It didn’t take long for the fast-moving flames of the Valley Fire to reach a nearby canyon."Just like a waterfall, it was a 'firefall' down the hill. Amazing and scary," said Irving.Anita left first. Irving got out soon after, after loading up a truck bed full of belongings. He took a photo showing his property, as it began burning."My house was there and then it turned orange. Then it was a yellow ball just slightly bigger than a house. I didn’t have the heart to look back, so I just drove away," said Irving.But there was no escaping the charred reality when the couple returned. Their home of 20 years, along with two vehicles, were destroyed by the fire."Defeated. You look at it and go, 'Where do we start?'" asked Anita.They’ve just started the cleanup process, expected to take months. Their home was insured, and the couple is already envisioning the rebuild and a fire-resistant home."I don’t ever want to see my house burn down again," said Irving.Irving has sketched out this drawing of a fire-resistant home."Half of it will be in a hillside on our property. Half of it will be open space and under a concrete patio roof ... an awful lot of concrete, walls, and floors," said Irving.A water feature will encircle their home.
