The Transportation Security Administration released tips on Thursday to help travelers traverse through security and make it to their destination on time during the busy Thanksgiving holiday. The TSA said it expects to screen 26.8 million air passengers and crew members from Nov. 22 through Dec. 2, a 4 percent increase over 2018. Here are 10 tips the TSA wants travelers to know:Get to the airport early—two hours prior to a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight. Pies, cakes, stuffing mix, casseroles, are all good in a carry-on bag because they are solid food items.Know which foods should go into a checked bag. Gravy, cranberry sauce, wine, jam, preserves, should all go into a checked bag. Why? They are not solids. Basically if you can spill it, spray it, spread it, pump it or pour it, (say that three times fast) then it’s not a solid and should be packed in a checked bag.Wear slip-on shoes. Shoe laces and zip-up boots take extra time to remove and put back on. Wearing slip-ons just saves you time. But admittedly, it’s fun to watch someone else hop around on one foot as they try to remove a boot.Place your electronic carving knife (or your non-electric knife) in your checked bag. Should be a no-brainer, wouldn’t you think?Pack smart. Don’t bring along any prohibited items. The paraplegic head football coach for Independence High School is claiming he was forced to "scoot down the aisle [of a plane] on his butt" and off the plane after United Airlines denied him an aisle chair on multiple flights.Tyler Schilhabel was injured in an ATV accident years ago and is disabled from the waist down. According to Schilhabel, he and his wife Courtney were traveling via United Airlines to the Dominican Republic for their honeymoon. Schilhabel says he booked his flights through Costco's travel program, and was scheduled to travel from Los Angeles to the Dominican Republic with a connecting flight in Chicago. The Schilhabel's were also scheduled for the same route coming home. According to Schilhabel, when they landed, the plane did not have an aisle chair to transport him off the plane. Schilhabel says his wheelchair is too big to fit down the aisle of a plane. Schilhabel says United Airlines also did not have a ramp or elevator to help him off the plane and only had stairs. According to Schilhabel, he had to scoot down the aisle "on his butt" and then had to hop down "step by step" to get to his wheelchair. Then on the Schilhabel's connecting flight in Chicago after the honeymoon, United Airlines also did not have an aisle chair. This time, Schilhabel says he and his wife had seats in the back of the plane. Schilhabel says he had to "scoot all the way down on my butt." On one of the flights, one of the flight attendants picked Shilhabel up and carried him down the aisle so he could catch his connecting flight. When 23ABC spoke to Schilhabel, he called the whole experience "humiliating."Schilhabel says on his last six flights with United Airlines, they were either "late with getting an aisle chair" or did not have an aisle chair. The skydiving plane that crashed Friday in Hawaii, killing all 11 people on board, was in another accident in California in 2016, according to National Transportation Safety Board records.The Beechcraft 65, manufactured in 1967, was being used as a skydiving plane as well on July 23, 2016 with 15 people on board when it stalled in the air three times and spun out before the pilot was able to land it. The 14 passengers on board, parachutists, were forced to jump to safety in mid-air.There was substantial damage to the tail section of the plane in the 2016 incident, but that wouldn't have precluded it from ever flying again, NTSB member Jennifer Homendy, who is in Hawaii investigating Friday's crash, said at a news conference Sunday afternoon.The cause of the 2016 incident was determined by the NTSB to be pilot error."The pilot lost control of that aircraft and there was substantial damage to the tail section of that plane. But like other modes of transportation you would conduct repairs and make sure that that is inspected," Homendy said. "So we will be looking at the quality of those repairs and whether it was inspected and whether it was airworthy before it was returned to service."In the more recent incident, the plane went down shortly after taking off from the Dillingham Airfield on Oahu's North Shore.The small plane, which was carrying passengers who intended to skydive, crashed around 6:30 p.m. Friday and erupted into flames. There were no survivors and authorities have not released the names of the people killed.Friday's crash is the deadliest civil aviation crash since 2011, Homendy said.On Sunday, she said officials were on the island to conduct their investigation and move "perishable evidence" into a safe location for inspection. Investigators have not yet determined a cause for the crash, she said.The plane did not contain a black box, Homendy said.The airfield where the plane crashed is roughly a 35-mile drive northwest of Honolulu.
