VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Vista Thursday on suspicion of making terrorist threats against a north San Diego County campus, Oceanside Police said Friday. The Mission Vista High School student allegedly made the threat on Snapchat, posting “Don’t go to school tomorrow because the cleansing will commence,” according to investigators. Other students saw the post and reported it to school officials, who contacted police. The Vista Unified School District sent an automated message to parents to notify them about the threat. "In this situation the systems we have in place worked. A student saw something and said something. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about school safety, and encourage them to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior or information they may have that jeopardizes their safety and that of others," said Lisa Contreras, VUSD Director of Communications.Contreras told 10News that the alleged threat did not target a specific campus or individual. VISTA (CNS) - A 24-year-old man was behind bars today for reportedly crashing his car into a freeway work zone in the far northern reaches of San Diego County while drunk, injuring himself along with two construction crew members.Ross Rodgers, 24, was headed south on Interstate 15 near Mission Road in the unincorporated Rainbow community about 10:50 p.m.Sunday when his 2008 Toyota Prius veered over traffic cones and entered the closure area, where it hit the back end of a stationary 2008 Ford F-250, according to the California Highway Patrol.A worker behind the wheel of the pickup truck and a second one on foot nearby suffered apparently minor injuries in the wreck.Medics took the two men, ages 30 and 36, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for evaluations, CHP Officer Kevin Smale said. Rodgers was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and transported to the same hospital for treatment of a broken bone in his right foot.Upon his release from medical care, the San Diego resident was booked into the county jail in Vista on suspicion of felony DUI.The crash led to intermittent closures of parts of the freeway in the area until about 5 a.m., Smale said. 1186

The high court on Monday declined to hear an appeal involving the construction of 145 miles of steel-bollard walls along the border in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. Environmental groups had challenged a federal law that allows the secretary of Homeland Security to waive any laws necessary to allow the quick construction of border fencing. VISTA (CNS) - A homeless man accused of fatally stabbing a fellow transient outside an Escondido fast-food restaurant was ordered today to stand trial on a murder charge.John Christopher Burns, 48, is accused of stabbing Jose De Jesus Martinez in the neck shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, outside the Burger King on West Valley Parkway.According to preliminary hearing testimony, witnesses said Burns made statements indicating he believed the 32-year-old victim was trying to steal his bicycle, which had been left outside the restaurant.Martinez was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Escondido Police Department.Burns was arrested by San Diego County sheriff's deputies at the Pala Casino one day after Martinez's death.He's due back in court Sept. 2 for a Superior Court arraignment. 844

WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time in Marine Corps history, women are attending a previously male-only combat training course in California.Marine Capt. Joshua Pena said 40 female Marine students checked-in Tuesday to the Marine Combat Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton.The move comes at least seven months after senior Marine leaders said they were considering the change, amid criticism that much of the early training excludes women.The entry-level course is for Marines who've finished boot camp and aren't assigned to infantry jobs. It lasts about a month and involves basic combat training, including patrol and convoy operations, marksmanship and the use of grenade launchers and machine guns.Pena said the female Marines will be fully integrated with the men, and that their inclusion triggered no changes to the course instruction. He said that eventually as many as 1,700 women would go through the combat training there each year.Currently Marine boot camp on the West Coast is only for male recruits. Women attend boot camp at Parris Island in South Carolina, where they are separated from the men for portions of the training. Congress members have been critical of that policy, and the Corps has been reviewing it.Until now, half of the Marine Corps' male recruits would go through their initial training on the West Coast where they had no female colleagues. A key reason for the limits is the shortage of female recruits. Women make up just 8.7 percent of the Corps.But Marine leaders have been eyeing changes with the belief that giving the men greater exposure to women recruits during training could foster better relations and greater respect over time. 1686
