CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A pedestrian died Friday night following a crash along Main Street in Chula Vista, police say. According to police, the incident happened near the intersection of Main Street and Del Monte Avenue around 9:30 p.m.After arriving on scene, officers found the injured man in the eastbound lane of Main Street. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.At this time, the circumstances of the crash are under investigation, but the department says the driver stayed on scene and cooperated.Alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor in the crash, police say. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) – Chula Vista police are investigating an overnight carjacking and kidnapping involving perpetrators disguised as law enforcement.The incident was reported just before midnight Tuesday in the Rancho Del Rey III neighborhood in East Chula Vista.Police said a group of men, armed with guns and wearing bullet proof vests, were driving in two white Ford Expedition SUV’s, which appeared to look like squad vehicles. Two people wearing vests with the word 'police' on the front ordered him to get out of his Renault Koleos SUV. Police said the victim believed the suspects had a gun. He got into one of their SUVs and was driven to Paseo Del Rey Park, located between Telegraph Canyon Road and East J Street. The suspects released the victim unharmed at the park, according to police.The victim walked 40 minutes to a residence on J Street to call 9-1-1, police said. He was not hurt in the incident, police said.The suspect vehicles and the stolen SUV are still outstanding, according to police. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Chula Vista teens are recovering after they were assaulted and robbed near Heritage Elementary School on Monday night. The teens are still on winter break. They tell 10News they were walking along Monarche Drive, on their way to get a slice of pizza, when four men pulled up next to them in a white car. The four men got out and assaulted them, getting away with their cell phones and wallets. One teen had to go to the emergency room to get a CAT scan and a x-ray to check for a wrist fracture. Chula Vista Police confirmed the incident to 10News. A lieutenant with the department says they were able to find the car and arrest the four suspects just hours later, two adult men and two male minors. When the suspects were located, officers found a total of 10 cell phones. Police are now working with other local agencies to find out if there are more victims. (KGTV) - A Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team [FCMAT] is in place to review financial decisions in the Sweetwater Union High School District amid a severe budget shortfall. Michael Fine of FCMAT said Tuesday his team is investigating the district’s spending. The team is currently reviewing documents and will be in the county later this month to interview personnel within the district, Fine said.The Sweetwater Union High School District is about million in debt for the 2018-2019 school year due to fiscal mismanagement. District officials previously said the shortage was due to expenses from staff raises, including costs of substitute teachers and an unexpected million expense for utilities. (KGTV) - Sweetwater Union High School District is trying to be proactive in the way it approaches teenage suicide.They'll hold an Open Forum to discuss the issue Thursday night, March 7, at Otay Ranch High School (1250 Olympic Parkway). The meeting starts at 6 pm."One life lost is one too many," says District Spokesperson Manny Rubio.According to the latest numbers from the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council, suicides rose in 2017 after three years of holding steady. There were 458 deaths by suicide in 2017.The report also found that 14.5 percent of students had seriously considered suicide.Rubio says any time there is an incident with a Sweetwater student, they have crisis counselors and psychologists who go to campus. They also follow up with students in the ensuing months. But those are all reactive measures.To be more proactive, SUHSD officials asked students what issues they want to address concerning suicide. Among the responses were depression, social media pressure and bullying.The topics will be front and center of the public forum Thursday night."We want to make sure as we're going forward, that we're looking at what we can to better support our students," says Rubio. "This was one of the ideas. So let's talk about this in the open and let's talk about this publicly so that we can make sure that our students are feeling supported and feeling recognized."The event is open to the public.
