SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After a week of sifting through ashes of the devastating Camp Fire in Northern California, San Diego firefighters are back home tonight. The San Diego Urban Search and Rescue Task Force searched over 1,500 burned structures in the city of Paradise, Calif. Battalion Chief David Gerboth says many did not survive the devastation. Crews were ordered to look for 1- to 5-inch bone fragments of those who might be missing. “We went into a career to save people and we knew going up there that that wasn’t the mission. It was to provide closure for some families,” says Gerboth. The air quality was also a big challenge for firefighters.“There’s a lot of ash, there's a lot of debris. We were constantly wearing respiratory protection," he added.The task force was also away from their loved ones on Thanksgiving. Firefighters say this mission hit home for many of them.“It was definitely a challenge for all of us,” said Brady Holden. “Whatever little problems that you would deal with throughout the day, as you were driving back to the base camp you look around at the devastation, it really put it all into perspective that my problems really aren’t that bad.”The task force had to report all of the structures as clear before leaving. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A University City man is hoping to warn others after someone with a BB gun shot him during his daily jog.On Tuesday, 70-year-old Taurone was nearing the end of his daily three-mile jog northbound on University Town Center Drive just after 6 p.m."Very calm, enjoying the evening. Hardly any traffic out in the neighborhood," said Taurone.On the sidewalk near the Renaissance Towne Center, his calm jog was suddenly interrupted by pain."Jogging along and felt a sharp sting in the lower portion or my chin, so I stopped. It felt like an extremely large pimple. I was pushing on it, and something round and hard came out of my skin fell onto the ground," said Taurone.A stunned Taurone, who didn't have his glasses, didn't look for the apparent BB pellet."When I realized I what it was, and that I had been shot, I was very angry," said Taurone.Taurone, who was shot on the right side of his face, believes the shot came from the shopping center area. He briefly scoured the area but didn't see anyone. Bleeding from his chin, he jogged home. He's doing fine now, but he's still upset."If the shot had been 6 to 8 inches higher, it would have hit me in the eye," said Taurone.Taurone has no clue about a motive, but he knows he was the intended target."Makes sense because I was the only moving target in the area," said Taurone.Taurone has been interviewed by police, who told him they haven't received reports of similar incidents in the area. He's now worried about what may happen next, because of the boldness of the attack. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police cruiser struck a man that officers were trying to arrest, police said Monday.The incident happened at around 4:15 a.m. in the 4000 block of Winona Avenue in the City Heights area.Police said officers tried to stop a man riding a bicycle without a light, but he rode away.An officer got out of his squad car without putting it in park, and the vehicle rolled and tapped the bicyclist, police said.The bicyclist was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and later released to police custody. 537

At just 16-years-old, many teens today couldn't think of doing so.Alexa Mendes said she knew she had to cut the cord after recognizing that she was addicted to the likes, shares, and interactions online."It is difficult enough to try and manage our overwhelming lives already filled with extracurriculars, sports teams, clubs, honors societies, difficult classes, insane amounts of homework, the pressures of applying to prestigious universities, and an abundance of other expectations," Mendes writes. "On top of that, we are always thinking about our online profiles."So she curbed her online presence back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A U.S. Marine stationed at MCAS Miramar has tested presumptive positive for coronavirus after returning from leave in Washington state.The Marine was returning to the base from leave in Washington state where he was visiting family, which is where officials believe he contracted the virus, officials on base familiar with the matter told 10News.A high level source in the military added that the Marine was tested on base for the virus after feeling ill and placed into quarantine while results were pending. The Marine is currently at home under quarantine, off base, that source added.A second Marine who returned from leave in Washington with the first service member is currently considered a person under investigation at Camp Pendleton.
